In Short
The wall is covered with pictures of models and movie stars, along with posters reminiscent of communist propaganda gone Gen-X. Rudy's is an anomaly in the world of barber shops, but don't let the facade dissuade you. This clean, efficient shop cuts and styles for all generations--from the Pokemon crowd to those old enough for senior discounts. It's also one of the few places in town offering the traditional straight blade shave.

Replace it with condos already!

So I go in, put my name on the list, and step outside for a smoke. When I returned, the idiot hipsters at the counter had crossed my name off and wrote "NO MORE WALKINS" along the bottom of the page. I explained to the apathetic girl with the stupid haircut that I had signed up, and still wanted a haircut. She says, "Well, we close early on Sundays because we have lives." and when I explained that I was just there for a trim, she was already talking to someone else.
I should mention, that last time I went in for a quick buzz and beard trim, they left me with uneven sideburns, and a huge long patch in the back. You get what you pay for, I guess.
It makes me happy to know this dump is getting replaced by condos.
- Pros: Cheap. Sometimes the person cutting your hair is attractive.
- Cons: Terrible attitude. Hipsters.
Stupid Hipsters

These F***ing people won't give you a haircut thats cooler than theirs, first off...
I sometimes wonder if they got their haircutting licence of the back of a cereal box...
and second off, they look at THEMSELVES in the mirror more than they look at you or your hair.
- Pros: My favorite thing is virtually everyone puts a hat on AFTER they get a hair cut there...I've seen it! so many times
- Cons: hipsters=people who think they are cooler than they really are..they were just kids that got pushed around in high school
They $uck

I was going to Rudy's for the first time on a recommendation. I called and got on the waiting list and arrived when I said I would. While I sat there wasting time on the parking meter - no less than six people were called in front of me. When my meter was about to expire I realized that I was being skipped and the guy at the desk said he didn't know why - but I would be next. I was furious and left - as I had no time left in the day or on the meter to get a haircut. I'll never go back. I heard that sometimes they do this - so BEWARE!
- Pros: It only cost me $1.50 in parking to find out they $uck - that and an hour of my time
- Cons: I was on the waiting list and was skipped by six people
Worst Haircut Ever

Some of the hairstylists looked like they knew what they were doing, but my woman (shortish blonde hair with a vine and leaf tattoo up her calf) was horrible. First, I waited for 2 hours for my cut, then when I sat down, this woman accosted me with demands about what I wanted. She clearly didn't want to be there and didn't care about me at all. I asked for her advice - because I don't know about hair and SHE SHOULD! - and she got annoyed with me. She gave me a chopped up mess of hair that I'm now just wearing in a ponytail with pins to hold up the shorter bits that were supposed to look good. They spent more time on everyone's short-dos when I was paying more for my long hair cut - which took way less effort than most of those short cuts! I will never go back because there's no way to determine who will cut your hair. I have had better luck cutting my hair myself. I think I'm going to buy myself a razor comb and stick to this tactic from now on. And speaking of which, aren't razor combs standard in the hip stylist's kit these days? Because my woman didn't seem to have one even though every other hairdresser was using them constantly.
- Pros: If you're lucky you might get someone who cares...
- Cons: Mean workers, Can't choose who cuts your hair, 2 hour+ wait, etc. etc.
Worst Haircut I Have Ever Gotten

I went to Rudy's down in belltown about a month and a half ago.
I have thick hair and an A-line bob, so it needs to be wetted and razored through.
I sat down, told the woman what my normal hairstyle was (it was grown out and I wanted it touched up), and that it had a lot of razor work in it, and would need to be razored again.
She proceeded to dry cut it straight across, took about ten minutes.
When I pointed out a couple of the many uneven places, she just snipped them off lazily, straight across again, not even up and down.
The underneath of my hair was longer than the upper layer of hair in patches, and it poofed up because she had taken out all the thinning at the bottom.
And when I went to pay the man at the counter factored a tip into the price.
I was really bothered by that, I've never gone anywhere where you payed the tip with the haircut. I've always been able to decide what I tipped a person, and I honestly wouldn't have tipped her at all.
I came back the next day and aksed for a re-cut, and the next woman was fantastic, and fixed it and it was fine, but the horribly shoddy work the first time made it not worth it.
Borcino's is better, but I'll be saving my money and going back to Vain.

Rudy's is a good place to go to get your haircut on the cheap. For around 20 bucks they will give you a really good haircut. There is plenty to look at on the walls while you are being primped - lots of music posters and other hip stuff. Once you go and find someone you like, you can call ahead and reserve that person. Or if you just go in, you get whoever is available. Either way can work for you, it just depends on your needs.

Rudy's isn't your father's barber shop. The shop is edgy and the stylists are fun (expect to see mohawks and boots). Don't be intimidated by the hip atmosphere, you can get a nice cut and style at a reasonable price ($15-$20). You don't need an appointment - Just drop by.
PROS: Fun - Friendly - Good Value
CONS:
butchered my hair

i got a cut there many months ago and i am a 27 yo woman. i didnt like it. it was very 'hipster' with tats, loud music and foul mouths which was nice but the lady who cut my hair gave me this generic bob when i wanted and expressed something different. she was looking away and rarely AT me all the while cutting my hair.
like she was daydreaming. that worried me, for good reason.
i went to a more expensive salon for them to fix it and as a consequence ended up with a shorter doo' than i preferred.
- Pros: cheap, walk-ins okay, enjoyable atmosphere
- Cons: generic cut, poor listening skills, not what i wanted
Good for the Money

If your a guy who is sick of paying $40 for the Salon cut, and cannot take the risk of getting a crappy cut at the $13 chain, then Rudy's is a place to go.
They charge $17 bucks for a typical cut and do a decent job. Can't beat it for the money.
