The Best Place In The U.S. For BBQ Pork And Beef Sandwiches

by WilliamAC at Citysearch

After having regularly taken orders for employs in my Everett office headquartered business during the first 10 years of Pecos' existence, I have been in Nashville for the past 20 years,

I was so happly on to see last June 26, 2009, Ron and Dana are still serving up exactly the same exceptional bbq they were 20 years ago!

This is a 'family' crew that is truly committed to the best bbq and sausages in the world.

  • Pros: Everything Including Wondeful Ron And Dana Founders
  • Cons: Zero

Great BBQ

by mikebo at Citysearch

It just tastes good. The sauce is good and I recommend 'spiking' it, which means adding a hotlink to your sandwich. You really can't go wrong by eating here.

  • Pros: Tasty food
  • Cons: no indoor seating

a treat!

by dickymo at Citysearch

If your in the mood for a sandwich, you cant do much better in Seattle than Pecos. Pulled pork and beef, or sliced beef, those are your choices. No indoor seating, cash only. Pure, Simple, I love it! Besides the sandwich, which is a hefty portion, you can order a hot link on the side (or on the sandwich) and bbq beans. One caveat, I love heat, I cook with Habaneros regularly, but I order medium here, and it is plenty spicy! Enough to feel it under your eyes. I stay away from the hot because the smoke and other spices are just too perfect to be lost on having a numb mouth. Toughest thing is choosing between the beef and the pork, so my wife and I usually get one of each and split them. If you finish a whole one, be ready for a nap!

My favorite Seattle BBQ

by sethstor at Citysearch

Pecos Pit has a very simple menu and presentation, and they execute it flawlessly:

They serve sandwiches....

Your choice of meat: Pork or Beef

Your choice of cut: Sliced or "Pecos" (pulled/shredded)

Your choice of sauce: mild (never tried), medium (pretty spicy), hot (scared to try).

You can "spike" your sandwich with a pork sausage, or add a side of beans.

You can sit outside under a shady tree, or take it to-go (no indoor seating, however they are open year-round).

I usually get the sliced beef, medium. You can see the pink smoke ring around the edges of the slices. You can also see the wood-pile out back that they use for their smoking. The meat is very tender and has a great smoky flavor. The sauce has a kick, but it is not just heat...lots of flavor there too.

It can get busy on a nice day around lunch, but I have never waited more than 10 minutes to order and get my food. The service is very friendly (which is somewhat surprising considering how hectic it can get).

  • Pros: Tasty food, consistent high quality
  • Cons: Limited menu, no indoor seating

Okay, but not the best I've ever had...

by tcdbiz at Citysearch

Made the trip solely because of the fantastic reviews. Not completely disappointed, but this is not by a long shot the best BBQ I've ever had. The main question I had was - Where's the flavor? Watery sauce somewhat reminiscent of Carolina BBQ, sans vinegar. Decent heat, but other than that, sadly lacking. The side spiked hot links however were fantastic!

  • Pros: cheap, great service

Love it!

by gmmace at Citysearch

I love Pecos Pit. I've been going for several years and Debra recognizes me on sight now. I get the pork medium hot with a spike. If you get it wrapped for dinner for an extra $.25, they separate bun, meat and sauce, which makes it nice if you only want to eat half for lunch and half for dinner. I normally get through 3/4 of a full sandwich before I'm totally stuffed. These folks have it down to a science, I don't think I've ever waited more than 10 minutes, even with a line and an order of 6 sandwiches. I don't like sweet or vinegary barbecue, but Pecos' sauce is neither and is delicious. Try if if you haven't yet!

  • Pros: great food, friendly staff and FAST!
  • Cons: parking sometimes difficult, only outdoor seating

Tasty, sloppy joe-style sandwiches get messy--but they're worth it.

by Contributor at Citysearch

The Scene
Husband-and-wife team Debra and Ronald Wise are still having fun, even though they opened their tiny takeout barbecue joint way back in 1980. Debra's the smiling face at the order counter; Ron's in back scooping the goods onto buns. This lunch-only spot fills up with workers and baseball fans before a matinee game, but the lines keep moving steadily along.

The Food
Dainty food this is not. It isn't for folks who mind a mess; it's for those who seek one. Ham, hot links and shredded beef and pork get the sweet-smoke treatment with three levels of heat. The meat is heaped between, next to and around big, oniony buns that wilt from the sauce--in a good way. Grab a side of beans, a pile of napkins and a soda, and head to the picnic tables to chow down.

Best BBQ in Seattle - most other places too

by ruggierom at Citysearch

I've been coming here since 1992 and I still love eating a Hot Pecos Beef, side spiked w/ beans more than anything else I've ever had. It is just amazing food and I'm so glad we've had them here all this time. With warm, friendly owners too - Pecos Rules!! Also you can buy big packs to take home and have your own Pecos party.

To the very few who have had negative things to say about Pecos you need to understand that there are many styles of BBQ out there. There is a big difference between not liking a particular style and doing a poor job representing that style. For what it's worth I've never heard a Texan tell me anything bad about Pecos. Texas is all about brisket and Pecos has got it down.

  • Pros: GREAT, BBQ, FRIENDLY
  • Cons: HOURS

Totally awesome

by therainbowconnection at Citysearch

This place is quite the find. Finally a hot sauce that's actually hot. My mouth was burning off and I was loving every minute of it. I'd definitely return to this Seattle lunchtime hotspot located just a few blocks south of Safeco Field and Qwest Field. I'd be the perfect dining option for a pre-matinee game. Lack of parking and long line was solved with quick, simple service. Outdoor seating was ample, but I can see how it poses a problem in the winter months. Make sure you get a hot link and baked beans with whatever sandwich you order. You won't regret it.

  • Pros: Great food, Cheap, Quick service
  • Cons: Only weekday lunch, Only outdoor seating, No parking
