I first saw Dr. Klein 3 years ago thanks to a friend's referral. During that first visit I found her professional and pleasant. Her "bedside manner" was sincere, though somewhat brusque. This past June I visited her a second time and left very disappointed. She projected that "I'm too busy for you" junk that patients receive too often from medical professionals. Her language and questions made me feel like she was projecting stereotypes of gay people onto me. When I asked if she could refer an Asian American dermatologist to examine some hyper-pigmentation on my face (which is indeed prevalent among APIs) she was dismissive, which struck me as surprisingly culturally incompetent. Though I've come to expect it from "Western" doctors, she also did not conceal her contempt for holistic/homeopathic treatments I had pursued to address chronic low-level cold symptoms. I don't doubt that Dr. Klein is a competent doctor. I am disappointed, however, that when I left my most recent encounter with her (and it will be my last), I felt like I had been chastized for being honest, for asking questions, and for wanting to engage with my doctor about my healthcare options.
