Homestyle cooking, only better. Large portions, good prices, breakfast all day, lunch for dinner ok. Good service, slows down at peak hours, but they're very efficient and can handle the crowds. Double counters with real chairs instead of stools--seats for singles almost any time, even Sunday morning. I like the place so much that I drive out there from Ballard at least twice per week.
- Pros: food, service, prices
- Cons: location

I've gone here a couple of times and had mixed reviews. The waitresses and service have always been good. I had a soup that I didn't like so much....instead of a broth in a kind of minestrone soup, it was kind of thicker, like there was corn starch in it. I didn't think it was that flavorful either. However, I did really like their lemon merengue pie.
Pretty danged good!

This little diner is loud and busy. The coffee is mediocre, the service above-average, and the food is awesome. Breakfast scrambles that'll feed an army, fresh squeezed OJ, hearty buttermilk pancakes, they've got one of the best breakfasts in Seattle.
One little hint -- if your food has feta on it, ask for the feta on the side. They use a really good and pungent feta but left to their own devices they'll use so much it'll overwhelm the other flavors in your food.
- Pros: Great food, good service
- Cons: Parking, bad coffee

I have been going to Leena's Cafe since it opened I don't know how many years ago. The service is fabulous, the waitresses are friendly and sincere, and the food is great!
The food served is pretty traditional, simpe American cuisine (hamburgers, fish and chips, soup, salad, etc.). Breakfast is served every day all day and is great.
I highly recommend Leena's Cafe.

First and foremost, I disagree with Pete who posted the last review. I go to Leenas at least twice a week, Im not a senior citizen and I love the place.
As far as the food goes, plenty of it, and great tasting Diner food. That is exactly what Leenas is. The hash browns are NEVER burnt, and the farmer brothers coffee is perfect to help start your day. This isn't Starbucks! Just good old regular Joe. Thats the way it should be. The waitresses are friendly, are always around to poor somemore coffee or water and they certainly know MY name.
Just one question for Pete....if the food is so bad, and the coffee is too,,, why have you continued to frequent Leenas at least 50 times as you 've said in your review? I don't go to restaurants I don't like...Just some food for thought there sir.
Bottomline, Nick and Voula Athan, the owners,,,watch this little gem like a mother bear watches her cubs. Its ALWAYS spotless, portion sizes are always generous, and the food is outstanding and plenty of choices as well. (try the baked lasagna...MY FAVORITE!)

<< UPDATES >> as of Jan 2007
I eat here only when I don't feel like driving further for breakfast. As many times as I've been in (at least 50 times) I would have hoped they would recognize me or at least make a little small talk. Never happens.
I'm a generous tipper for good service. Normally, that's what you get but all bets are off on Saturday and Sunday mornings. You'll wait a long time for a table, a long time for water, a long time for a refill on your $1.80 metallic tasting coffee, and a long time for your food.
The quality of the food is marginal - usually the hash browns are not buttered well enough and the outer shell is so burnt that you can't eat it (nor would you want to). Good portion sizes. Poor coffee quality (metallic). << This has improved >>
The music is endless 50s and usually a little too loud for my taste. << This has been toned down >>
A basket (near the front door) containing free newspapers is always full :) I still come here a couple times per week because most items on the menu are pretty good, however, the burnt hash browns happen once in a while. With the exception of 13 Coins, most restaurants across America don't take the time to really make them right.

It's hard to find fresh-squeezed anything anymore, but at Leena's it's the best--Grapefruit, OJ & Apple, and I'm sure others I've just never had. The food is always good, especially breakfast and lunch, and the atmosphere is so comfortable.

I was introduced to Leena's by a good friend we went there every week day for lunch. He was in a wheel chair and we were accomidated with such style and grace by both owners and wait staff that a 4 star could take lessons. The music was soft and relaxing we could visit with each other without shouting. Food was great i had split pea soup every Thursday. When my friend got too ill to go out we went to get take-out for him and it was greatly appreciated. The people there were like extended family for both of us.
- Pros: taseful food, gracious waitstaff, fantastic service
The best around in years!

Great service, always a smile and time to talk to you. Special order requests not a problem. Great home cooked food, the kind we all want to make but can't. And for the men, a bonus too, some of the waitresses are kinda hot too! So, be sure to tip good to! But, don't tell to many people, as the can get pretty busy at peak times...
- Pros: Good look waitresses, excleent service, NOT MANY KIDS, YAHOO!
- Cons: none
My personal fav of all time!

Ive been going to Leenas for over 5 years now, sometimes more than once a week, and Ive yet to have bad service or bad food. Leenas is all about family, they never advertise yet is rare that they arent busy. You cant find another restaurant anywhere in the world that makes you feel like your seating at your kitchen table with your family, but being served instead of doing the serving. They have the best food ever, there cheese burgers are the only ones I eat now (dont eat red meat except at Leenas, theyre to good to give up), and I am 110% addicted to their Italian (home made) dressing. It may not be black tie or the Ritz, but the atmosphere and the food makes it better than being at the Ritz. Its just like being at home for thanksgiving, every day of the week.
- Pros: fast, friendly, family oriented
- Cons: , very busy, limited bathrooms
