Best Chinese Food this side of China

My family has been going to Wah Kue's since the early 60's. Everytime guests came to visit Wah Kue's was on the list of to dos. I have been all over the country and nobody compares to the food there. I will be coming home in June and the 1st stop is Wah Kue's then of course Spuds. The brown sweet and sour sause is as close to heaven as you can get. I would take it home in a bucket if I could. The Chow Mein is to die for!!. Can't wait. Last time I was there I had to make a delivery in St Louis on my way back to Detroit. I am now in Vegas and nobody compares!!!!

We haven't been back in well over a year, maybe even more. They use to be very good at Wah Kues. I really loved the sweet and sour ribs. But the last time we were in, prices went up so high and food went down in quality. The eggrolls that we got were sour, really nasty. Our waiter didn't want to hear about it, just said he would bring out something else and hurried away. We couldn't finish the food and left. I paid for our soup and drink, they should not have taken our money, but they did, even after we tried to tell them about the problem we had with the food..didn't want to hear it.

Last time there and will not go back.

This is NOT chinese food........

My husband loves this place, he grew up going there. He also never had REAL chinese food before. This restaurant family if robbing the people of burien BLIND! This is the most expensive chinese food I have ever had. Safeway has better chinese food than this. Everything is loaded with starch filler (like buffets), and comes pre-made by food service supply companies. The "bbq pork" must of come from arkansas. The "chow mein" has NO FORM of noodles. Gelatinous muck. Everthing is horrible. I would imagine the proprietors are laughing all the way to the bank.

• Pros: Fried Rice, if you are desparate and hungry enough.
• Cons: Everything they serve...../ Price/ Authenticity

nothing compares to wah kue!!!!!

the nice wonderful elderly lady and her husband that owns wah kue, she is constantly smiling angdworking . they always know your name and what u want... my family has been going there since the 1950's and has been passed from one generation to another and so on, there food is nothing like anything else, once u have it u will CRAVE IT FOR LIFE!!!! the # 3 is the best almond chicken with the best gravy ever, pork fried rice and its not the average tasting fried rice it has a special taste that is addicting, chow mein yummy, and the BEST sweet n sour spare ribs in the world!!! if u want to taste HEAVEN then get in ur car and go there now, trust me u wont regret it... thank you wah kue for the unforgetable addicting yumminess u give to all of us.

Best food in town for American style Chinese Food. Food better 4:00pm or after 8pm or when not busy.

If your cheap and look first at price you are not going to be happy.

Been going here since mid 50's and food is always good. Better from 4-4:30 pm or after 8 pm. If its crowded the food tends to be overcooked and greasy. My favorite basic selection is #3 family style with special order of boneless almond chicken and Cantonese style chow main with a side of shrimp with lobster sauce. Get the pork spare ribs with the bone that comes with the dark sweet and sour sauce not the breaded boneless with the red sweet and sour sauce. Then depending how many people are in your party order more sides as you want. If you don't buy any sides you have to order white rice since it does not come with the family style numbered dishes but there fried rice is the best. (put the dark sweet and sour sauce on the rice) You can order no MSG but if it is real busy it might be a big hassle. Best to eat in the non-booth side of the restaurant next to the bar.

• Cons: Price is a bit high but worth it.

$27 for soup and chow mein? What the heck?!?!

I ordered takeout from Wah Kue tonight without the aid of a menu (and, consequently, a price list) - BIG MISTAKE. I ordered a large won ton soup and regular chicken chow mein, thinking it would cost somewhere between $15-20 for the two. When my husband went to go pick it up, imagine both our surprise when the bill came to $27!

Pricing aside, the food's alright - the won tons were big and plenty in the soup, but the broth was a bit flavorless. As for the chow mein? Slightly better than what you'd find in the Safeway deli, but not exactly outstounding. The servings were decent, but certainly not worth $13 or more each!

In the future, I'll stick with restaurants I know to present a good value, like Mayflower of China in Southcenter...

• Pros: Ready for pick up, decent servings, lots of fortune cookies in the bag.
• Cons: Insane prices, completely unremarkable food, horrible value.

It's the absolute best!

Anyone who lived in the Burien area during the 50s, 60, 70s knows about Wah Kue! I was raised on their food. This not food which was bought, prepared, ready to heat, from a food supplier! These people are using the exact same recipes they used during the 50s. I love the crisp noodles, and the Egg Foo Yung! We always have bought #1 dinners - Pork Chow Mein, Egg Foo Yung, Barbeque Spare Ribs, and Fried Rice. This restaurant is well known for take-out dinners. One of the things I respect about the owners is that it is strictly a family business. They haven't cloned the business in other locations or changed their recipes to make the business more profitable. They still prepare the food the exact way that we loved it in the 50s! The one thing that I would consider negative about this restaurant is that it is not open for lunch.

• Pros: The food is original recipes - family recipes from the 50s - VERY GOOD
• Cons: Not open for lunch, many times there is quite a wait for a table

Whoever heard of a chinese restaurant serving chicken noodle soup (from a can I am sure) with their combo dinners??

Why all the good reviews?

Wow, my girlfriend and I are totally dissatisfied with our experience there. For a chinese restaurant in Burien, this place is WAY overpriced. $10-13 dollars for basic chinese dishes like fried rice and chow mein, are you kidding me? They have american dishes too but $8 for a basic egg and cheese sandwich on wonder bread? My pork chow mein had way more bean sprouts than noodles, I could hardly see any in that swimming sea of sprouts. I wanted a noodle dish mofos, not a bean sprout dish!!! I ordered BBQ pork chow mein and got some grey chunks of mystery pork in it as well, sheesh. This place is a disgrace to chinese food, I was actually offended. How could this place be so popular? I guess all the white people I saw there don't know their chinese food.... Well, we're never going back....

My favorite chinese restaurant

They have awesome almond fried chicken, and the BEST pork fried rice in the city. I've tried other chinese restaurants, but none compare! The service is always great, and the same friendly faces have been serving me since I was little. Parking can be a little tough if it is busy.
