Drive to the parking lot on the coast and enjoy the sunset
by SearchingforGreatSandwich
This is a top spot for relaxing and watching the sun melt behind the olympics on a clear evening. We've also seen many types of water fowl here.
Bring a picnic & a camera!
- Pros: Views & wildlife
- Cons: lots of families
A steep labyrinth of trails, streams, ferns and roads greets visitors to this north Seattle park.

In Short
In 1875, builder Morgan Carteek donated 23 acres of rock-and-sand beach in Piper's Canyon north of Greenwood to the city of Seattle. Located on Lake Washington's Pontiac Bay, park facilities include soccer and softball fields, picnic tables and stove shelters. Explore a bit and you'll find an archery range and an old skid road.
A Introspective Haven

Ever wanted to pretend that you're filthy rich and live on acres and acres of green land, so many that you have to take a narrow, twisty road to your mansion? Then Carkeek Park is a must visit, with the charming drive ending with a beach and beautiful view of the Puget Sound. There is still some sense of remoteness in this city.
- Pros: variety of landscape, picnic areas
- Cons: unsafe after dark
Watch the sunset at Carkeek!

Smell the sea breeze, catch the glimpse of sunset, walk the woodsy trails... It's all there at Carkeek.

This park is beautiful. Alot of people don't realize there is a 250 acre park in the middle of Seattle with trails and a beach but there is. Take a day trip and bring a lunch. There's salmon running in the river, park benches, miles of trails, picnic tables, views of the Olympics and Puget Sound, everything you need. Its best to get there in the morning before alot of people start showing up. Bring the kids or friends and you won't be disappointed.
