Best cinema experience in town
by dailycookie
I LOVE this theater. The most unique in Seattle for so many reasons. They played Blade Runner last month and the auditorium was over half full! From the velvet curtains, no commercials, the sparkly ceiling, the retro decor, the very mature audience that seems to frequent this theater...everything about Cinerama is a plus in my book (Besides the seats needing to be replaced)...
Nice place to see a date movie
by cowgirl_blues
The cushy retro surroundings, balcony and tiered seats, and mood lighting make for a nicely romantic setting. Plus, it has a huge screen. Great for watching epics like 300. Customer service at the snack counter is also excellent. Shows seem to sell out fast, though, so buy tickets in advance for things like premiere nights and weekends.
- Pros: great moviegoing experience
- Cons: downtown parking is scanty
If you only see one movie, ever, see it at Paul Allen's state-of-the-art pet project.

In Short
The most modern, lush theatre in Seattle. Before the show begins, a giant velvet curtain hides the concave, 68 foot-wide screen. A speckling of glittery ceiling lights give the impression that the theater is outdoors; it might as well be as the roof is dizzyingly high. And the speakers? In a word, killer. With 808 seats, including a grand balcony, the crowd is always diverse. Cult films are occasionally shown at midnight.
Great screen, projection but uncomfortable seats
by senatorsmith
The exceptionally large screen and state-of-the-art projection and sound make this the place to see CGI- and/or visually-intense blockbusters IF you can put up with highly uncomfortable, cramped seats arrayed in an antique non-stadium format (and the poor sight-lines that go with that). Ticket prices are a relative bargain but concessions are unusually expensive.
- Pros: Super large screen, State-of-the-art AV, Retro experience
- Cons: Uncomfortable seats, Cramped seat layout, Some poor sight-lines
I remember when
by karin_engstrom
As a child, my Father brought our family to Chicago see the cinerama movies. He loved cameras and thought this was such an innovative form of movie making. As an adult, I became partner in a firm, Dudley Ltd., that had been involved in producing the cinerama films. By that time, the heyday was over. When we closed the office, we gave footage and stills to the Universitiy of California, Riverside, for their photographic archives. The restoration of the Seattle Cinerama is wonderful and much appreciated.
- Pros: Comfortable seating, Accessible by bus, Excellent sound
- Cons: Popcorn too expensive
Amazing
by agropyron
After seeing Attack of the Clones several times, I then saw it at the Cinerama. I couldn't believe the difference! The picture, the sound, everything.. I never want to see a movie anywhere else if I can help it. On top of all that, they have very comfortable seats and a nicely decorated theater to boot.
- Pros: Huge screen, Amazing Sound, Comfy seats
- Cons: Difficult to park, Shames other theaters
Wait-O-Rama?
by caddatonic
Technically and atmospherically the flat-out best place to watch a movie in the Puget Sound area. It simply puts all the other cookie-cutter, shoe box theaters to shame. My only beef is that they make you wait outside in the ticket holder line way too long before letting you into the theater. My advice, bring an umbrella.
- Pros: HUGE SCREEN!!!, HUGE SOUND!!!, SPARKLING CEILING!!
- Cons: Line wait too long, Bad balcony front row, Sparse parking
GO HERE NOW!

If you are reading this, you shouldn't be. You should be at the Cinerama watching The Two Towers or whatever is playing right now. So go, get out, hurry. NOW!
- Pros: HUGE SCREEN!, GREAT SOUND!, EVERYTHING ELSE!
- Cons: NONE, NONE, NONE
Eh? What's that they said???
by kal_el2000
The Cinerama is by far one of the coolest places to see a movie in the Seattle area... However, after seeing Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets on Saturday, all I can say is, huh???
I know the Cinerama has the best sound system money can buy, but what's the point if it is turned down so low, no one can hear it. I had trouble hearing the dialogue in quiet scenes.
Crank it up and let's see what this puppy can do!
- Pros: atmosphere, screen, celing
- Cons: overpriced, parking, sound
