My Brother-in-law almost died!
by KoryC
****WARNING****
On October 3 my brother-in-law went to see Undertow and after a confrontation with the security came home with a bruised forehead and a sore side. On Monday his spleen burst. After losing half his blood and many hours in surgery they removed all his spleen. He could have easily left behind his wife and beautiful baby boy.
Think before you enter this venue - it could be your last!
- Pros: Go if you hate your organs
- Cons: Go if you want an a$$ kicked by security
I won't be back
by MaxxVelocity
This is the only place where I've ever had a problem with the staff. Not just in Seattle, but from here to L.A. to Boston to deep down south.
As it turns out, a lot of my friends have had the same problems when going there. Getting kicked out, ripped off, and insulted seems to be how they do business.
I doubt I'll ever grace that hole with my presence again. Portland isn't that far away.
- Pros: they have a local monopoly, so you're stuck with them
- Cons: belligerent staff, no highlights, not worth the money
Worst Venue Ever.
by Erotocism
I had been going to El Corazon off and on ever since they opened in Seattle. However, this last year, I drew the line. Why, do you ask, did I keep going for so long? They have a monopoly on pretty much all the decent shows in Seattle. But, just this last year, I decided that any shows I can go to, I will go to in Portland or Vancouver. The owner of this place is the biggest tempered tool I've ever met. The drinks are far too over-priced for as little alcohol as you get, and the venue is miniscule in ratio to the overblown price of the tickets.
My advice? DON'T GO! Support our other local venues like Studio 7, The Moore, or Neumo's. The more you support them, the more we will have better venue options in the future.
- Pros: Absolutely None.
- Cons: Small venue, expensive drinks, owners are tools.
If the show has seating, you'll be ripped off!
by VoxyGinger
If you pay $75 for tickets that say Row 1, and each ticket has a seat number next to the other that indicates they are in the center, how would you feel if you were given four random seats in the back row in the darkest, crappiest corner?
Welcome to the world of the scam that is El Corazon! When we tried to take the seats in the front row that matched our tickets, we were threatened by security. Apparently they sold five entire rows of "front row" seats at the $75 price. Nice, eh?
Drinks were awful, staff was awful, the place smelled of car exhaust so badly I thought we'd all pass out from the carbon monoxide.
Oh, and about our complaint? They said "too bad".
- Pros: The band.
- Cons: drinks, staff, building, lights, sound, business ethics
Not suited for national acts
by peterga
This venue has hosted some epic shows in its various incarnations and continues to have some great acts come through the doors. But the venue itself and particularly the current management are not really up to the task of hosting some of the national acts that they book. The main room is so crammed that you can't leave for a drink or bathroom break with much hope of getting back in, and the bar makes getting a drink a serious investment of your time. I now go only if the act I want to see has a very small following or if I like them so much you'll put up with just about anything.
WORST VENUE I'VE EVER BEEN TO
by fucktheelcoazon
I had been planning a trip up to Seattle from Portland Oregon to see Carcass. I had bought my ticket in advance and my greyhound ticket, totaling up to about 105.00 dollars. For this amount of money to be spent to see one band, I would expect THEE night of my life. I arrived in town about 5 hours before the show so I decided to buy some beer. Little did I know the Staff at the El Corazon are a bunch of straight edge egotistical Nazi's. When I showed them my ticket, which by the way cost me 50 dollars, I was denied and told, "can't let someone who reeks of booze in.". I explained to them I just took a four hour bus ride up here and I have no where to stay and I have nothing else to do. They didn't care at all and started laughing. All I wanted to do is see Carcass. Is that so much to ask???
In conclusion, All I have to say is,
The staff at the El Corazon are THEE biggest @#$%-Heads on the planet.
Anyone who is reading this, here is a word of advice... Don't support this place because giving the venue money means the Staff are getting paid, and quite frankly they all need to be fired.
AVOID THIS PLACE LIKE THE PLAGUE!!!!!!!!!!!!!
- Pros: none
- Cons: rude staff
El Corazon Security deserves recognition
by EhnPeeDeeNW
Well some may freak out on over-zealous security remember that there are two sides to every story.... you aren't 'ejected' from anything without some damn good reason for it regardless of what event or location.
Anyways....
In the past there hasn?t been an issue with bringing a camera to a venue for personal photographs and I wasn?t sure what to expect at this show. Upon arrival two members of the security who were checking identification noticed my camera bag and enquired to whether or not I had a ?photo pass?. I did not, and also did not travel to the venue in my car, opting for a cab instead so there was no place to store the camera. Being patient with me one of them offered to store the camera in his locker and I accepted. He also mentioned that when MLWTTKK merchandise showed up to enquire with them on whether or not I could use the camera. In the end I was allowed to and it made it that much more of an enjoyable evening.
I attend many shows in the Seattle area and by far this has been the best experience I have had with security and door screening. Again, weall have good nights and bad ones but this was exceptional. These two security guys were patient, understanding, and courteous to me and those who accompanied me. I wanted to make sure that they were recognized for their efforts and professionalism.
They deserve recognition.
- Pros: Great Venue
- Cons: Obscure bar service at all ages shows
Best venue in Seattle
by thatonegirl96
My favorite place to see bands. All the bands that I've seen there have said it was their favorite venue in Seattle. I love how the security is NOT strict on rules. such as crowd surfing. Got nice and close to the bands, always pretty clean bathrooms, nice and small but not toooooo small. The sitting area is always nice to go to after moshing :) I have never been in the bar though so couldn't tell you about that. Overall This place is my favorite :)
- Pros: everything
- Cons: not able to go in and out of venue as far as I know unless you're 21+
Worse then a poke in the eye.

Essentially, El corazon Is by far the worst venue in the entire seattle area.
Bands would do as well to their fans by performing in their closets at home, as little as patrons can see and hear their show in the el corazon performance hole, (which at it's best is dirtier then an oil-rig outhouse). If there was enough room to move on the dance-floor you'd still be hard pressed to peel your feet off the 1/4 inch of built up sweat, beer, and judging from the stench what could only be urine, (which has a remarkable ability to permeate every inch of the establishment). The the only excuse sound engineers at El Corazon could possibly have for producing the hollow tinny soul crushing sound quality that the venue is so famous for, would either be deafness, or the exclusive use of equipment designed for soap commercials in the 1940's.
The performance space is so poorly engineered that there truly Isn't a GOOD seat in the house.
Their non-segregated "all ages" status, has every patron running the full gamut of uncomfortably, from the teenagers being felt up by drunken frat kids, to the full grown adults, being throttled by pre-pubescent hormone filled roid-ragers, while simultaneously being "baby-sat" like infants, by the staff.
The El Corazon "security" staff, employing bouncers with egos larger then their thyroid problems, has no problem over filling the venue beyond capacity, to the point that over 40% of the audience can neither see nor hear the band they came to see, but after recieving the money from their customers have been know to eject; patrons, "looking at them the wrong way" and EVEN going so far as EJECTING BAND MEMBERS, during performances (who may have stepped out side for a cigarette.) Now if I were managing this establishment it would be my policy to be sure my staff had (at the very least) graduated from their J.r. high-school, however perhaps their "all ages" policy also applies to the mental capacity of their employees.
- Pros: NONE
- Cons: EVERYTHING
worst venue i have ever been too.. dont waste the money to see a concert
by suzyqz73
i have been going to concerts and shows my entire life.. first off, let me start by saying the reverend horton heat show was WAY to crowded.. i should have called the fire marshall and had him close it down. i lasted 10 minutes before i was ready to leave and it took me 20 minutes to make it out of the show room. i literately had to ride the wave to get out. and i paid good money for the show to not see anything, stand in line for a half an hour to get a beer and to be squished. i will never waste my money to see a concert there again. even if one of my favorites are playing.. if i should ever find myself there again and it is crowded like that again, i will gladly call the fire department
- Pros: nothing
- Cons: way too much to mention on here
