Alki is a good beach
by kee22
Alki is a great Seattle beach. To me, alki has one of the best views of seattle. The view is even better at night when you are sitting at a bonfire and looking at the city and the stars. Also, it's a great place to watch the fireworks on the 4th..but it gets pretty crowded because everyone likes going here to watch the fireworks.
- Pros: Great beach, good place to watch the city and fireworks
A long stretch of beach offers a slice of Southern California in the Northwest.

In Short
There are more than two miles of beach access and spectacular views of the Olympic Mountains and islands in Puget Sound. Skaters, runners and cyclists roam the wide path that runs the length of the park, while picnickers dine near a replica of the Statue of Liberty, which also features volleyball facilities. Legend has it that pronunciation of the park's name, originally "al-key" (Chinook for "by and by") changed to "alk-eye" during Prohibition.

Check out Seattles on Statue of Liberty! Gorgeous beach, with breathtaking views of Seattle skyline, mountains, and Bainbridge Island. Sandy beaches are ideal for castle building, walking, or volleyball. Bonfires at night. Sidwalk all along to walk/bike/rollerblade. In summer, crowds are expected, and parking not so ample. Reseraunts in the area are so-so, or so has been my experience. Facilities are undergoing renovation this year (2004) so only bathrooms are porta potties.
- Pros: Sandy Beach, Views, Large Beach
- Cons: , Parking
West Seattle serves up sand, seashore and sunsets.

The Scene
A real beach, complete with sand, volleyball courts and--when the sun is out--scantily clad Seattleites. All of this within 15 minutes of the city. Wide paths running the length of the park are crammed with as many exercise buffs as Green Lake, while the 154-acre strip of sandy beach fills with sunbathers in summer and couples out for quiet walks in winter. Across Alki Avenue Southwest, you'll find softball and soccer fields, as well as two lighted tennis courts and a recreation center (with a restroom). Enjoy one of the 37 picnic tables and the mountain views, with a replica of the Statue of Liberty in the foreground.
The Experience
If the sun is out, be prepared for huge crowds--and the accompanying high-quality people watching. When it's cold and rainy, you and your loved one could have it all to yourself.
Alki is great!

Alki is great for everyone. When it is nice everyone is out there. Parking can be a pain when people gawk instead of drive. The views of the city are wonderful and sunsets are amazing.
- Pros: View, People, sports
- Cons: Parking on sunny days, People
See ALL of Seattle!

i LOVE Alki! Here on Alki, I could see SOO many views of the city! There's also great restaurants on the beachfront, so a PLUS for dining as well! I didn't know the beach was off-limits after 2 AM. If you just want to look at starts, this is a great spot for that as well. The beach isn't even really dirty, and like i said, NO MATTER WHERE YOU GO, you've got a great view of stars and Seattle all in ONE SPOT! Whether day or night, you'll love this beach!
- Pros: GREAT VIEW
fun place to hang out!

Alki is goergous! You can lay out on the beach, play vollyball (or watch the half-naked hot guys play), and then go eat at one of the many places surrounding the beach. I like happy hour at Duke's. They have really good drinks and awesome food, all at half off from 3-6pm. I just went to the music festival they had and it was a lot of fun, just sitting in the sun listening to up and coming bands do there thing.
