Like water under the bridge, you can dismiss it as basic scenery after the first viewing, but the first viewing is a must!

The Fremont Troll is a good illustration of what a quirky, eclectic, and random neighborhood Fremont is. It's not one of those sites that you will spend a great deal of time at. It's the kind of thing that is really cool to see and take a couple pictures at, then move on. Visitors to the city enjoy checking it out and it's a fun and different tourist shot from the typical "Space Needle shot", the "Pike Place Market Pig-and-you shot", and such. Its size is impressive (it's got an actual VW Beetle under one hand) and it could be fun to climb on for a few and it is just a couple blocks from Fremont's shopping, dining, and drinking district(s). Definitely check it out if you haven't already.

  • Pros: It's free, a great photo-op, and it's mass is overwhelming the first time.
  • Cons: It's about what I would expect out of Mt. Rushmore... A cool photo op, but then that's it.

not a place you need to spend more than a few minutes, but for what it is, it is still entertaining. i showed my mom and she thought it was neat....not earth shattering but still kinda funny and neat

I think it's cool

by kee22 at Citysearch

I think that the Troll is cool..it's not something that you see everywhere. It's not the best thing to see in Seattle, but it's free. In that light, I think that it's worth seeing/showing people.

  • Pros: It's free, something different to look at
  • Cons: it's not a must do when you visit seattle

Free & Intriguing

by ccavette at Citysearch

This is one of my quick stops when out-of-town guests come out to Seattle. It's always fun to park by the troll before a dinner in Fremont and snap a few pictures. Parking is often available in this area as people come and go to check it out and the restaurants in Fremont are only two blocks away.

An eclectic neighborhood finds affection for a stone face only a mother could love.

The View
This gnarled, two-ton rock sculpture anchors its eccentric neighborhood. One of Fremont's most beloved pieces of art, this funky fellow--jointly created by Steve Badanes, Will Martin, Donna Walter and Ross Whitehead--livens up a useless spot that might otherwise be an eyesore.

The Experience
The troll may be gruff, gray and greedily clutching a VW bug, but he's not scaring anybody. People scale his giant knuckles, scraggly hair and crooked nose. His three-humans-tall, six-humans-wide concrete body quietly tolerates the endless wear. He even makes an annual October bow, in costume, as the kickoff point for Fremont's "Trolloween" celebration walk. When the Aurora Bridge escaped the 1996 mudslides, Fremont folks credited their troll.

A must see for anyone who visits me in Seattle!

by megannestor at Citysearch

Being a student, I'm always on the lookout for cheap and, better yet, free stuff to do in Seattle. My friends and family from the east coast have visited me from time to time and taking them to the Freemont Troll is always at the top of the list - and never disappoints. What better to highlight the quirkiness of Seattle than a giant concrete troll hidden beneath an unsuspecting overpass?

  • Pros: Free!, In Freemont!
  • Cons: not a one.

At least it is free

by tastetaster at Citysearch

If this is one of the "best" things Seattle can offer, then I am ashamed to call it home. What a lame excuse for something to do. I guess since it is free?

  • Pros: free
  • Cons: ugly

Okay but theres better

by paigereb at Citysearch

Ok So I've seen the troll and its interesting but its better if you see it while on the duck tour. This is a tour on a bus that goes into the water and then drives you around Seattle. It stops at the Fremont Troll but it gives you other interesting places to see as well.

  • Pros: interesting

something different

by amyrules at Citysearch

The troll is cool, but there isn't much to it. One can get bored looking at it in a few minutes. It was something that wanted to just see for myself at one time. So that is my recommendation, go check it out to say you have seen it.

rabidly anti-troll!

by jedbird at Citysearch

I love and hate Fremont. There is so much that is genuinely useful and interesting and worthwhile, yet there's also tons of self-conscious hippie wackiness. The Troll is my least favorite thing in Fremont - even worse than Lenin. It just seems like a big, unaesthetic, "herb-friendly" mistake. Sorry. I'm just a grouch.

  • Pros: easy to avoid
  • Cons: ugly, twee, troll-themed
