I actually have heard a few friends scoff that I like this place, but for me it is like walking into a a simple classic bistro in the Marais district. Having a "French" bistro that doesn't decorate itself in overtly French pieces (like old-style ad posters) seems a bit more authentic to my experiences in Paris. I like the food very much there, and yes it is simple, as it is supposed to be for this style of bistro (as opposed to one of the baby bistros of the big name Parisian chefs that popped up a few years back). When I go into these, I expect a small seasonal menu with some simple salads, pates, mousses or terrines, a confit or two, and a well-priced wine list. Le Pichet does this well, and though I am not usually blown away by the food, the whole package takes me back across the Atlantic.
Pros: simple French cafe/bistro feel
Cons: it is what it is - which may not work for everybody
