This place is The Best Thai in Town

by bvm12

The food at Kwanjai Thai is fantastic. It is the best tasting Thai with the freshest vegetables and sauces that are made daily and so get spicier as the night goes on. It's fast, reasonably priced and the portions are huge. I get two to three meals out of one order of phad thai. The service is wondeful - they are the sweetest people. They always remember me and the often give me little treats from their own kitchens. I admit I sometimes have trouble with their accents but these people are so good at what they do I don't really care what they are saying to me!!!

Not as good as it used to be

by jewels2007

This place used to be one of my favorite Thai places, but not anymore. Just as a reference point, I love pon proem thai on mercer island, tom's thai on the ave. and I am sure there are more, but those are two of the best. i used to consider kwanjai in the 4-5 star quality, but now it is so NOT good at all. I just went there last night for some food and can NOT believe how bad it was. The food was not fresh tasting at all, it was artificial tasting and generally crappy, more like fast-food thai--the kind of plate you get for $5 at a mall, or in some random thai joint in a city where no one knows thai food. So yeah, I wouldn't recommend this anymore. And I haven't been to this place in two years, what happened? Both meals served were terrible. :-( Kwanjai, what happened?

  • Pros: nice waitress, cute dining area
  • Cons: terrible food, cold host made the ambience quite severe and un-cute

Most rude service I've EVER experienced

by averagewhiteguy30

I created a profile on CitySearch just because I was so mad after eating here. I asked for a side of broccoli with my curry (broccoli isn't listed on the menu). The waitress, who was already reflecting her impatience with me for ordering it, says "three dollars." No problem, right. So the steamed broccoli comes and I said "Oh, I thought this was stir-fried?" She says "seven fifty." I said "you want seven fifty for the same three dollar portion of broccoli if I want it stir-fried?" She raised her voice, saying "you pay if you wan' stir-fry." I thought to myself, "for a tablespoon of oil and 60 seconds in the wok, you want an extra four fifty?" She wouldn't leave the table even after I said "please just leave." After wafting her away with my hands and saying "leave" she left for the open kitchen where I heard her complaining loudly to her co-workers about me. The curry was okay, nothing special, but who can enjoy a meal when your waitress is ranting at you. Everyone at the table with me was embarrassed. I'll not be back.

Best Thai in Fremont

by dbodmer

There are seemingly endless Thai food options in Fremont and Kwanjai is by far the best. Nothing beats eating outside on their little patio in the summer.

  • Pros: Food, prices, speed of service

WORST THAI FOOD

by willisy

Do not eat at Kwanjai. I got so sick from eating their food that I haven't been able to leave the bathroom for 2 days. Believe me; eating at Kwanjai is not worth it!

skip the phad thai

by leeab

I've eaten here for a couple years until they changed their phad thai recipe, it would seem. It tastes like ketchup. It's been one of the only places aside from Thai Toms that has decent phad thai. But Thai Toms takes too long since they are so busy. I would recommend the Phad telay. It's amazing! And so is the Lad Nar. The people there are extreamly nice and the service is quick. But when I crave phad thai this was where I would go for the good stuff. What a bummer. The traditional recipe is excellent. Now I will have to go back to getting my dish from Little Thai, in the University District. That place is awesome!

My favorite for Seattle Thai

by dickknows

I brought out-of-town friends to Kwanjai -- and they insisted on going back for dinner the very next day. The food is excellent -- hearty and properly spiced. Its cooked at light speed -- and its cheap! I really like the bare bones, cabin-like feeling as well. My favorite dish here is the "special noodles" -- its stacked with shrimp and meat, the noodles are addictingly cushy and wide, and the sauce is strong and flavorful. And they do a true Thai spice! Ive ordered 3 out of 5 spicy stars and was burning in the mouth -- and thats a good thing! Also love the shoo shee salmon (sp?) and the penang curry.

I thought my life was complete...

by somebozo

...until I ate at Kwanjai Thai. By far the best Thai food I've ever had. I went with a large group and got to try a little bit of everything and was amazed by everything I tried. Two of my party had recently returned from Thailand and were making comments like "Oh, this is just like the dish we had at...".

  • Pros: excellent food, excellent value, great location
  • Cons: parking

best overall value for thai food

by sbhatt33

You'll be sitting in close quarters with strangers, dining under dim fluorescent lights and talking over the noise in the open kitchen, but Kwanjai is the best Thai food for the price I've found in Seattle. It's several notches above pub grub, but doesn't pretend to be royal cuisine. Be sure to try the eggplant curry, cashew chicken curry and phad thai with pork.

  • Pros: tasty, cheap, fast
  • Cons: cramped, noisy, impersonal

Hmm..

by vsrwlnd

I love Thai food but this is not one of my fav places. The flavors of their food are leaning more toward chinese food. I would rather go to other better Thai restaurants.

  • Pros: Good spot
  • Cons: Not Authentic
