Our FAVORITE Place to go in Seattle..............

by dmdmdt62

We LOVE Pike Place and we go so often that several of the vendor's know us on site. They've even gottin to know us to the point that they know what we want when we come here.

We only buy our meat's from Fero's Meat's and our Apple Chicken Sausage from Uli's Sausage Place. We've been eating their sausage for almost 3 year's now. We buy our Vegetable's from the Manzo Bro's stand. The folk's here have gone above and beyond to make us feel comfortable and they really welcomed us to Seattle. Then there's my grandaughter's favorite man, Mr.Allen. He's at the fruit and vegetable stand just across the way from Manzo Bro's. He's really patient with us when we come there. He has the fruit roll's and their the best.

We also Love the Tenzing Momo Shop also. That is the only place I buy my body oil's from.

So if your ever in Seattle you gotta come to Pike Place Market. Trust me you won't ever regret it.

  • Pros: The Vendor's are very lpful, patient, and knowledgable
  • Cons: Never go on Weekend afternoon that is unless you enjoy crowds.

This open-air shopping haven is a mecca for authentic merchants straight out of the Northwest's past.

by Contributor

The Experience
The market is all about the essential sights, smells, sounds and tastes of Seattle. See fish from around the world neatly displayed. Smell flowers from local farmers. Hear street performers strumming guitars, blowing saxophones and singing a cappella. Taste honeys, nuts and other foods from local vendors. Sunny, dry weekdays are best for lingering at the market--weekends can get pretty crowded.

The Background
In 1907, produce prices increased due to middlemen taking higher profits. To combat this problem, the city created this market where the consumer could "meet the producer." Today, the market boasts more than 100 produce vendors and wares from more than 200 artists. Additionally, Pike Place is one of the city's most sophisticated dining areas.

You have to go when you visit Seattle

by kee22

Pike place is as much a part of Seattle as the space needle. If you are visiting or even live in seattle, you have to go. For me, I thought it was ok. I liked looking at the things that the vendors and the shops were selling..but they were expensive. It's a good place to buy flowers tho. I have only been there a couple of times..and for me, it was enough

  • Pros: Good tourist site, fun to browse

Tourist fave, local mob scene/

by alisonkramer

Definitely a must if you've never been to Seattle, because everything you could want from the city is available in this half-mile stretch of covered booths. But if you've seen the sights and are just here for the produce, avoid the fanny-pack packed weekends and be sure to go in the morning, the produce is at its freshest and the vendors are more available to talk and barter.

The best market in town--and possibly anywhere

by spudsocks

I love going to neighborhood Farmer's Markets, but Pike Place is the only place around that's a farmer's market 24/7/365. Love all the fresh fruit and veg, cheesemongers, butcher counters, fresh bread, etc--it's almost like shopping in a European market. I also love all the little bites you can treat yourself to while you shop (basically anything from the Crumpet Shop, pain au chocolat from Le Panier, tomato soup from Beecher's, souvlaki and turkish delight from Turkish Delight, I could go on and on). And who can forget awesome stores like Metzger Maps and Bavarian Meats?

I've recently started heading here for dining as well. Matt's, Maximilien's, Le Pichet, Campagne... too many amazing restaurants to discuss. And it's all concentrated in a few blocks!

  • Pros: Great atmosphere, friendly service, delicious food
  • Cons: Hard to park, very crowded in the summer

Pike Place Market is a must!

by kmkarll

What's not to love?! Gorgeous flowers, beautiful art work, aromatic multi-cultural food everywhere. Everyone is very friendly. Stop at Pike Place Nuts for some "Banana Walnuts" then on to Market Spice to choose from their huge selection of Teas. No trip would be complete for our family without bringing home some of Beechers Award winning Flagship cheese!

You can't leave without visiting the " Original Starbucks" !! The flying fish are good but the characters who make them fly are GREAT! Quite a novelty! Will always go back for more!

  • Pros: great people, great food, great atmosphere

Parking Prices going UP

by sgirlie

Us locals have always used the free Hour of parking to nip in and get our shopping done. No more - they've done away with the free Hour, and are now charging $3.00 an hour. Be warned - there's NO FREE PARKING at the Market any more.

Cool

by jcol513

Pike Place was cool. My wife loved all the flowers. The fish throwing thing is kind of overrated considering there are only one stand doing it and they did it when people bought fish. My wife loved the saltwater taffy in the little candy shop. Also the roll place had good cheese and jalepeno rolls. A little crowded but of course it was Saturday! A good place to go and see!

  • Pros: Flowers Cheap!, Fun to see, Salt Water Taffy
  • Cons: Crowded, Expensive Parking
