A bit expensive, but the Emerald Drop and fries are amazing

by malsquad at Citysearch

I've been to the W Bar 3 or 4 times for Happy Hour, and it's generally very good. My girlfriend always gets the Emerald Drop, which is a Happy Hourt special, and she swears by the thing - I prefer to stay with the Happy Hour beer menu, which is good as well. The Happy Hourt fries are fantastic. They are served in a large funnel and are perfectly crispy. My only qualm with the W Bar is its price, which can get expensive just from a few drinks.

  • Pros: Emerald Drop, Happy Hour fries
  • Cons: Expensive, can get crowded/slow

Good place to meet if you can find a seat

by masondw at Citysearch

This has become a good place to meet up with friends downtown, especially if you work downtown. The vibe is good for maintaining conversation and the drinks are good enough to keep you there. I try to go early to avoid getting stuck in the congestion that occurs when it starts to fill.

  • Pros: location and decor
  • Cons: can fill up quick

The attentive staff and luxurious decor keep this hot spot swank, without alienating the blue-jeaned crowd.

In Short
This downtown hot spot is ground zero for the beautiful and sexy, who eat well and feel fabulous. Settle into one of the enormous, semicircular velvet booths for primo people-watching. The munchies are as chic as the patrons: fries with truffle oil, Big Eye Tuna tartare and mini-grinders with house-cured meats. Try a specialty cocktail from the long menu--the flavorful Hey Ginger! has ginger puree floating amongst gin, triple sec and lime juice.

Not Worth Staying Long

by jrovalino at Citysearch

To be fair, the atmosphere is great ...what can you say,but its the W.

Clean lines, cool setting.

But the service stinks and the bar area is EXTREMELY small, sure they have more room on the right where the tables are but its always closed off, hence the long wait for a decent drink. The drinks are ridiculously overpriced...$10 for a glass of wine, please. And good luck getting on of the tables or sofas. I can think of lots of places. The hotel checkin staff are snooty.

  • Pros: Sleek
  • Cons: Overprices, Small

Social Interactive Playtime...

by r87380 at Citysearch

SIP on the 3rd Wednesday of each month is fabulous! You can pretend you are in a scene from Sex & The City, but with a few more gay men to make it even MORE fabulous! Of course, the crowd is quite mixed providing for a fun and sexy atmosphere for all.

  • Pros: Cute Boys, Good drinks

Meet and Move On

by RichardTate at Citysearch

For my money, it's a great place to meet for a drink before heading out for the night--particularly if you're staying in the hotel. There's plenty of room to spread out, with cocktail-friendly seating in the limbo between the front desk and the bar, and the drink menu is a kick, literally and figuratively. Pick any concoction; they all pack a punch, and the names are guaranteed to spark conversation.

  • Pros: Good drinks
