Psychotic Owner - spend your money elsewhere

by MapleleafNeighbor

We've been in the neighborhood for 9 years and recently started going to A NY Pizza place out of convenience even though the food isnt the greatest - but we'll never go back after we met the owner tonight. He got every single thing on our order wrong and acted like we were an inconvenience when we asked him to bring us the correct order - he never once apologized even when he forgot to place our pizza order and we had been waiting almost an hour, or when he overcharged us for our order. The clincher came when he told me i didn't tip enough and that i should just take my tip back (i had tipped 12% which was generous given the extremely poor service. )He also made a statement about not making enough money for all of this "sh*t" before going on about how different things are going to look soon (what?). I said don't care what he makes - and expect to be treated with respect at a minimum regardless. Personally i don't make enough to take my family out to dinner and be treated like that. I feel a little bad - maybe he is bi-polar or severely depressed, but his behavior was outrageous to say the least - all that and the food isn't more than mediocre. You're better off spending $50 at Pizza Hut....

  • Pros: local joint
  • Cons: hostile service, mediocre food at best

Real NY Style Pizza

by gonzogirl

I moved here from Brooklyn. It took me 2 months to find a decent slice and NYPP is the real thing! All the downtown places advertising NY pizza are in complete denial. Before anyone pitches a fit about this place or that place- I've tried them. I had 10 different pizzas from 10 different places before finding what I wanted. And as a new yorker I guarantee that this is as close to NY pizza as you can get 3500 miles to the west. The slices are huge- and served by the slice- just like they are back home. Calzones are also quite nice but when I drive up I'm there for the pizza.

Go try some real NY style pizza.

  • Pros: best pizza in seattle
  • Cons: street parking

Hands down the best..

by mrandmrs_horn

I have two vices in my life...pasta and pizza. And finding good pizza is a hard thing to do. I have lived in the area now for almost 9 years. And one day, coming home from the U district, we drove my this hole in the wall with bright red signs talking about NY pizza. My family is from New York and its hard to come by around these parts. After driving by a few times, we finally went in. For two pints of beer and a "Godfather", it was money well spent. We took my dad and uncle who had flown in from the East coast and they loved it. We've recommended it to my husbands best friend, and he called with a slice in his mouth and said we were right. You cannot and should not drive by without going in for a slice or even your own pie. You will be happy you did.

  • Pros: great energy
  • Cons: get there before 6pm or you won't find seating or parking

A long time fan

by bookrep

My wife & I moved from metro NYC 30+ years ago. We had found A New York Pizza Place when the original owners opened in downtown Seattle which quenched our need for great pizza. We lost track of the best pizzas in the Northwest, maybe east of the Delaware River, when the original place closed! We found it again several years ago, thanks to a review in the Seattle Times and we returned as customers. We travel 60 miles roundtrip for one of their pizzas about once or twice a month (carbs keep us from more often trips). Doug and his entire wait-staff are friendly, attentive and efficient. My wife & her sister share the house salad since neither could finish it alone (in addition to pizza). We always order the largest pizza usually half cheese & half pepperoni.

CON: No iced tea.

  • Pros: Great pizza, great salads, very good subs
  • Cons: No ice tea

Hands down

by awoodsnyderman

I'm an East Coaster who never thought I could get decent pizza out here. I was wrong. This place is good enough to quiet my complaining about the lack of good 'Za. Now I just need to find a decent Deli....

  • Cons: parking can be tough

Love this place

by mfuntanilla

I will drive to this pizza joint because it is so damn good and believe me I am not a fan of commuting! Aside from the tasty pizzas, the house salad is fantastic and the staff is always friendly!

NYC Guy loving Pacific NW and this pizza place

by filosj

My girlfriend Mary and I visit this place enough to know the owner Doug. While new to the business he has got a good thing going and is working to make it better. Pizza you can have your way and hot subs (especially the meatballs) that are just fantastic. The furniture is nice and old as is the stuff on the walls that reminds me of home. Wine is good. Beer pulls fine. The dough twists at Whole Foods are his too! The TV on top of the soda refrigerator is just perfect. Joe

used to be better

by rmid

It was better when, I think, there was the original owner. Fresh pies are still decent, but avoid the slices, they've sat around and the cheese is chewey and the crusts have turned dull. Spagetti and meatballs is decent with a bright-tasting sauce, but very "American" style though, with fat spagetti that has been cooked past al dente. The garlic bread you get with the pasta is pathetic, though, stale French bread spread with nasty margarine and garlic salt.

  • Cons: buying by the slice

YUM2

by ericmallory

I agree with everyone who has positive things to say about this place. When you walk in you would never expect to get the value that you get. This pizza is SO good. I often stop in with my employees and buy them pizza from this joint. They love it and it is a great reward for all of us! It is halfway between where we work and live so it is a nice place to eat while we wait for traffic to slow down. I have never been to New York but I cannot imagine that the pizza in New York would better than this. I was just there today and ready to eat the rest of my "pie" right now!!!!

Best East on the West

by fishin

The best pizza in Seattle! The service is fast and friendly and the sauce is great. We recently moved back to Seattle from the east coast and after several failed attempts to find a good pizza we found "A New York Pizza Place". We've been hooked ever since. Thanks to Doug & co. for consistantly delivering a great pizza.

  • Pros: great sauce, kid friendly, great service
