Lied to by sales staff

by Etcha

I was thinking about joining and spent a day at the gym with free 7 day pass. In the showers there were only two curtains so people in stalls have no privacy and stood there waiting for the water to get warm before taking a cold shower and I mean cold. Floors look dirty and the shower curtains and walls have mold and look unclean. Then I commented saying, wow that's cold! and one of the ladies said, "it's always like this". I said, "it never gets warm?" She said "no" and there were four other women standing around and they all just smiled and nodded. I was called by sales for me to become a member and I told her that I had to take a cold shower. She said, "the hot water went out for an hour that day". I said "someone told me it was always like that". Then she said "during peak hours the water goes cold". It was very slow that day with maybe 10% of the cardio machines filled so not peak hours, very crowded in the weight room though. I said, please tell me more about the cold showers. And then the sales girl suddenly started saying "hello? hello?" and hung up on me! She called a few minutes later and maintained that usually there is hot water. I just felt like she was trying to con me. I would have gotten a membership here but after that ordeal I realize it's kind of dirty. No membership for me!

  • Pros: lots of equipment and pool
  • Cons: cold showers and dirty equipment

Decent Gym

by tweaze

I recently moved, and switched to this 24hour fitness. I prefer my old 24 hour fitness, but this one does the job. My old gym had more of a community feel - this one is much more impersonal and commercial feeling.

Equipment-wise - there is lots to choose from. I don't typically visit during 'peak' hours, so I haven't had any problems with waiting for cardio or weight machines

Cleanliness - this branch could use improvement. The trash cans are often full to overflowing, and sometimes the sanitizer seems to be missing. I hopped on the treadmill yesterday, and there was dried sweat all over it. On the hunt for the sanitizer to clean it, I discovered the towels were out. Also, the weight area is often unruly, and I have to hunt for plates or dumbbells. I only use the locker room to stash my bag or change quickly into my swimsuit, so I can't really comment on the showers or anything. It seems fairly clean.

I dig the pool. I love to swim, and I like that it doesn't close early or anything. I'm usually able to get a lane, and if not right away, one opens up pretty quickly.

The parking is not ideal, that's for sure. If I'm planning going during peak hours, I catch a bus. Late at night, it's not such a problem to find street parking. But still, having a small dedicated lot for parking would rock.

I have not used the personal trainers here, or had much interaction with the desk people. My goal is to get in, do my workout, and get home again, and not spend too much time analyzing my surroundings.

  • Pros: pool, open 24/7, decent amount of equipment
  • Cons: parking, machine layout seems random

yuck

by saraseattle

I have been a member of 24 hour fitness for over 3 years and have been to 6 different locations and this...by far...is the worst. The showers are filthy and the curtains are moldy. 3/4 of the showers in the ladies room do not have curtains. I have been several times and am disappointed. I'll be canceling my membership. This is probably the cheapest you'll find a fitness club for and there is a lot of equipment.

  • Pros: cheap
  • Cons: dirty

Nice place to work out

by sl84

I will have to admit that I almost didn't join this club because of the other reviews out there. I decided to join anyways since I get a good discount with my job and started my membership a few weeks ago.

I talked with a really nice guy named Vincent who helped me get started in the gym. He wasn't pushy at all, even when he offered the personal trainer services. I simply said 'no thanks' and it was left at that. I did not in any way feel like I was being 'sold' to, which I hate. Registration was nice and quick, I even got a tour of the facilities.

So far, I've been going to the gym a few times a week. Everytime, the people at the front desk are very polite and helpful if I have any questions. A guy named Jef helped me when I had questions on the elliptical machine and even offered me a cardio workout plan for myself, which I was really impressed with.

The locker rooms/showers are always clean when I've gone and so is the pool. I truly have no complaints with this gym, only good experiences so far. Thanks, Vincent and Jef! I hope this review gets to your manager. :)

  • Pros: Great service, nice location, clean facilities, helpful staff
  • Cons: none so far

Yale Ave 24 hours fitness is awful.

by MasterW

This 24hours fitness on Yale Ave is AWFUL. Over-crowded in the evenings that my wife and I go to (Tue, Thur.). Air circulation is bad, feels like breathing in bad air while working out. Both men and women showers are horrible. In men showers, either the dispenser is gone or no soap, locker room is small and and I can see mold on the wall. We complaint to the staff several times now but nothing has been done. Their Bellevue, WA location is not like this, so I am pretty sure it's the management problem at this particular location. Try to avoid this location.

  • Pros: Indoor swimming pool
  • Cons: Overcrowded. Dirty locker room and shower.

Full-service gym offers weights, cardio equipment, sauna, steam room, classes and personal training, open for most hours of the day.

by Saira Masood

In Short
With classes ranging from 24 Hour Tease, a sexy strip aerobic class, to the more subdued Vinyasa flow yoga and butt-kickin' boot camp, this active sports club is packed with health conscious (and some insomniac) gym goers. Stocked with the latest cardio and weight-training equipment, this gym cranks up the pumping music, flicks on the Plasma TV sets, and lets fitness fanatics work out according to their own schedule. With affordable rates and a friendly, knowledgeable staff, personal training is another tangible get-fit option. And while the moniker is somewhat misleading, on most days the door is open for at least nineteen hours--not too shabby.

Great gym in downtown Seattle area

by NewportSEO

I'm not sure what the fuss is all about. I visited this gym tonight as I'm in Seattle on business. This 24 hour fitness is very nice. It's pretty big (3 floors), lots of equipment, and the mood is decent. There arent a ton of meat heads hogging the equipment, I didnt meet any pushy salespeople, and there were a minimal amount of weirdos (every gym has them). The equipment is fairly new and everything seems to be in working order. There is even a small lap pool and jacuzzi. Sure there are more elegant gyms around (Equinox), but come on...they are $300+/mo. For the price point, this is a great place.

It's a gym...and it works.

by VivB

There seems to be a lot of fuss about pushy salespeople and the meat market atmosphere. I've been going there now for about two months and have yet to experience any of this. I did a 30 min intro with a trainer when I first started, and of course he dosen't get paid unless he trains people, so naturally he asked if I wanted his services. I declined polietly and that was that. Simple and easy. Since then I go 24 hours a day (since I work from home and keep odd hours this is HUGE for me). And I enjoy it. I like watching Law and Order while working out there. The weight room has a nice variety and everything seems clean to me.

I almost wonder if people who find the sales/training staff pushy are just those types of people that feel bad for saying 'no'. I didnt want personal help so I said so, no guilt, no push...that was that. If you hesitate and do the classic American "well..ya know...um...i dont really think..." then of course they'll try to persuade you. But that seems to me to be the fault of someone being unclear.

The locker rooms are clean, the showers have great water pressure, the music (while a little emo for my taste) is fine. Plus I have my mp3 player, and often plug the headset into the doodad attached to the machine and watch the television. They have lots of machines, cardio and otherwise. Even when it's packed I rarley wait more then 3 minutes to get on one.

This is not a state-of-the-art type of gym, but for working out I dont really see how you can go wrong.

  • Pros: lots of machines, good location, relaxed atmosphere
  • Cons: can be hot at times

"I do know that we have not had any other instances in this club of lice in over a year..."

by jhames

Previously I thought this facility 4/5 stars, but that was when I first joined the gym October '07 and had a personal trainer.

Then I contracted pubic lice from the locker room June 9.

Here is the reply I received from the club manager, emphasis between asterisks is mine:

James, I do apologize for the experience you have had in regards to the cleanliness of our facility. When do you notice the club looking the worst? I can assure you that we do go through and disinfect the locker room area twice a day and have a hourly check for any things that need to be taken care of right way, these type of activities would not build a habitat the lice would breed. I will look into this issue today and see if we have any signs that there are lice anywhere and then let you know. *I do know that we have not had any other instances in this club of lice in over a year that I have been here.* Again, I understand where this could be a very embarrassing and frustrating situation, so I will let you know what I find out when we look deeper in the club for signs of infestation. Let me know if there is anything I can do in the mean time!!

  • Cons: a breeding ground for, oh, lice

Good if it fits your needs

by aleksandr111

Okay, people that rated this gym low have needs and expectations that might not be realistic for a gym of this popularity and price bracket. I go here pretty often and have zero problems with it. However, I never talk to the staff, work out in the morning when it?s not nearly as busy and don?t use a personal trainer. That is the key! If you can do those things you?ll be fine, if you need services and trainer time and all that then look elsewhere ? but you won?t be able to get what you want without spending a boatload of cash. One thing I might mention ? if you?re a guy and want to use the weight room in the afternoon you?d better be pretty confident. It?s really intimidating the shape that 95% of those guys are in, it?s really amazing. It?s literally packed with muscle dudes. The morning is MUCH better, you can actually get your stuff done and not have to adjust your routine or wait. It?s great.

  • Pros: Great location!
  • Cons: So many beautiful people
