Good Venue
by elitec21
Well i went to chop suey for the first time about a week ago or so and i liked it! It wasnt special, but it wasnt bad. As you can tell from the name its an asian themed club, i liked the decor, it was nice. It was really easy to get to, i had no idea how to get there, then looked it up and found out i only need one bus to get there. The size of the venue is good, its not to big, but not to small at the same time. Big enough to have extra room, but small enough to be an intimate concert. The sound was good, they had fans going which was nice. Overall it was a good venue, i would go back again!!!
- Pros: Easy to get too, good size
CLOSE IT DOWN
by berniecohen
I HOPE THE CITY CLOSES THIS PLACE DOWN. THE OWNERS HAVE NO CONCERN FOR PUBLIC SAFETY. AS YOU WILL FIND THE CHARACTERS THT ATTEND THESE EVENTS FIND DEATH TO BE QUITE ROMANTIC AND THEY OFTEN GET WHAT THEY WANT.
R.I.P. CHOP SUEY.
Too much attitude
by seaken75
Don't really like the feel of this place. Too much attitude, fake hair, and snotty --kids. The sound is decent and I like the decor, but given the fact that they've not booked anyone I'm even slightly interested in seeing for quite some time, if I'm just looking for a place to get a drink I'll go somewhere without a cover charge.
great place for music
by binman69
i like this place and it seems to get better all the time...they get good and diverse music acts...good size dance floor. cool looking place--has personality...i would go back
The stylish, crowd-friendly layout and eclectic lineup make this one of Capitol Hill's busiest clubs.

In Short
The interior has been outfitted by someone with an eye for fashion and flare for kitsch--chinese lanterns hang from the ceiling, portraits of Bruce Lee decorate the walls, and a dim, red glow lights the dance floor. The layout is very accommodating to a good show: It's easy to get to both the bar and the bathroom quickly. The calendar is eclectic and might feature DJs one night and indie rock the next.
WHAT A SH*T HOLE

DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME. THIS PLACE IS OVERPRICED & THE SERVICE IS AWEFUL. THE CROWD IS NOTHING BUT KNUCKLE-DRAGGING NEANDERTHALS. DO YOURSELF A FAVOR & GO TWO DOORS DOWN TO MADISON PUB, WHERE YOU'LL GET GREAT SERVICE, PAY NO COVER & FIND THE CHEAPEST COCKTAILS IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD.
WILL SOMEONE BULLDOZE CHOPSUEY PLEASE. I THINK WE COULD USE THE EXTRA PARKING.
- Pros: A GOOD PLACE TO KEEP STUPID PEOPLE OFF THE STREETS
- Cons: OVERPRICED, UNDERPOURED DRINKS, RUDE STAFF
Not a one size fits all venue...
by dubhead
Chop Suey tends to book great acts although it has been a challenge to handle sold out live acts. The shows I have attended when there is a sold out live act have been terrible, not from the standpoint of the act itself but the venue's size and layout. Promoters and booking agents should steer clear of booking their band here! Sound is a mixed bag and is usually decent in the right spots. I went on one of the hotter days of the year and the circulation fans weren't even on! That is insane! Everyone was irritable in the crowd because of the excessive heat. Nice venue for DJ shows and smaller acts that won't sell the place out. Typical lame security.
- Pros: Nice theme, Good location, Book decent acts
- Cons: Bad stage, Hot, Overcrowded

chop suey is a dark and charasmatic venue with a crowd that is there to dance to sets like Ming and FS, miss kitten, diesel boy, Mark Farina, to name a few. Come as you are, punk goth prep gay lesbian, whatever your heart desires. Plenty of pre funk bars in the surrounding area if you want to start early. I've never gone home disappointed.
Fun!

I read the review and took my ear plugs and had a fabulous time at Chop Suey on 12-29-04. Everyone was nice and friendly as much as anywhere else in this type of place.
No one seemed to mind that a bunch of us "Older Folks" were there to support our favorite band in the Battle of the Bands.
We has such a good time we would even go again to hear bands with whom we have no connection!
Lil_cyr scared me @ the club and he/she didn't need to. It was a fun experience overall.
- Pros: Funky, Fun, pleasant atmosphere
Watch your bar tab!
by cmphilipps
Chop Suey was one of my worst experiences at a club. Almost passed out from full capacity crowd, they serve weak drinks and the staff are a bit full of themselves. To top it off, my friend was charged $30 for three domestic beers and two well drinks...I didn't realize a Black Label was $6??! I hope Chop Suey uses that extra money they pocketed to invest in an HVAC system...it's I-Spy all over again! Bring cash, don't start a tab!
- Pros: good location, hot dog vendor
- Cons: everything else
