I love the borscht at Katella Deli -- IT IS EXCELLENT! My husband loves the matzo ball soup with the chicken bits. The sandwiches are LARGE and they do not skimp on portions! The chopped liver is to die for. Must try! This is a fabulous deli!

MrsWiseman: "2 cents plain" is an antiquated expression. I'll be that most people under 65 have no idea what that is.

This place leaves a lot to be desired, the servers handle the money, food is over priced. All the drinks are over priced coffee is of poor quality and $2.59 or so may have gone up....If you order chicken soup THE CHICKEN IS EXTRA Sometimes the beef on the french dip is nasty you don't know what your going to get. The servers are treated like SLA VES. The bakery is not that good only select things are consistently good. THE PLACE IS GENERALLY DIRTY DUSTY THE LIGHTS ARE LOW FOR THIS REASON IN MY OPINION The corn beef and cabbage is great you will like it. NO SOURDOUGH BREAD if the place isn't kosher whats the big deal have had for the most part good service better than average food, but not consistent. I realize that all restaurant's have the Spanish folks working there, but they need to not have long winded conversations in there native tongue. I know what they are saying and some of it is not nice towards the customers. The cooks need more supervision to insure QUALITY. They don't know things like well done, medium hold the this and that. If you want something different on your order GOOD LUCK .

I ordered fried chicken to go. The hostess never asked about a break selection so I had to exchange upon pick up. I requested a cup of coffee to go and to my surprise it was a small cup, poor quality and $2.59. When I commented the hostess indicated a lot of complaints regarding the beverage charge. Upon eating our meal I found that a majority of the chicken was coating!!! Great big thick fried coating, yuck. The coleslaw was very heavy in vinegar. I picked up pasty (lemon cake and eclair). The cake was just like inexpensive cake from the market (cheap market) and I do not know about the eclair but it looked like the same quality. My mother is in the hospital and I was delivering so I did not have time to go elsewhere, but I will not be back.

Pros: Can't find any

Cons: poor quality-priced too high for some items

Went on 11/3/07 for breakfast. Food great, service great, Bakery to die for (have to try their garlic-parmesan BAGEL CHIPS- highly addicting) the prices are reasonable (usually) BUT, $2.50 FOR A PLAIN CUP OF COFFEE IS RIICULOUS !!!!!!!!!!!!! we'll go there again but, you can bet I won't have anything but water to drink until they take care of this abomination or serve a decent quality coffee.

Pros: Food and Service Great.

Cons: COFFEE WAY, WAY OVERPRICED !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I live in Atlanta and was visiting the West Coast for my father's birthday. We went to the Katella Deli to pick up his birthday cake and decided to stay for dinner. The menu was large and varied. The clientale was mostly older and seemed to be enjoying their food. I ordered the chopped liver. While it wasn't piled high like NYC Deli's, it was quite tasty. I was disappointed that I could not order it on sourdough bread though. I would love to go back and try some other items that looked/ sounded good.

Pros: Food choices

Cons: Service is slow

I was looking forward to trying something new and was so disappointed with my unedible Monte Cristo. It looked like plastic and tasted like cardboard. I complained to the waittress that I didn't think I could eat it. I couldn't make up my mind, so my date suggested that I order a French Dip that he could share with me because he didn't like his roast beef sandwich. She happily brought me a French Dip that was moist and delicious! The sandwich was delivered with french fries that were old and overcooked. I complained again, and the waittress brought me a fresh serving of delicious fries. Afterwards, we visited the bakery and picked out a delicious carrot cake, fresh rye break, and a flakey blueberry danish. Overall it was a below-average visit. I wish that the owners would review their menu items for quality.

Drove 20 Minutes to Katella Deli in search of some Jewish Penicilin. Sadly, Katella sorely dissapoints. That the waitress didn't know what a two-cents plain is, that they serve corn bread with matzo ball soup, that I've had better matzo ball from a jar (OK, it was clearly the same matzo ball), that lox and eggs is served with potaotes "O'brien," all reasons that Katella misses the mark so greatly. Even the bakery, my last hope for the place, serves a sad excuse for rugelach. Perhaps they spent too much time on the jelly donuts and "fresh baked" coconut cream pie. It's not that I wouldn't reccomend Katella deli. It's fine-ish if you just want run of the mill diner food. But, if you are looking for deli food with any authenticity, just head up to the valley.

Pros: Decent Coffee

Cons: fake jewish food

My family goes there everytime we have to celebrate a birthday or we have family coming into town. It is one of the best places to get comfort food when you are down, to have a good time and create good memories with great food around you. I love the restaurant and everyone I take there loves it too.

Pros: Great Food, Great Service

Cons: There may be a wait, but it's worth it.

The matza soup will re-grow a dismembered llimb...it is that good. Mashed potatoes must have God's blessing, they are to die for. Knish is very good. Service is hurried, but efficient. Try it, you'll like it...tee hee.

Pros: MatzaSoup, Mashed Potatoes, fair prices

Cons: crowded sometimes, hurried wait staff
