simply stated: great service, great food: best halibut and chips!

by Piebaby

We had walked by Shuckers a few times while staying at hotels nearby and never really considered it (maybe the name, and no enthusiasm for oysters?). July 4, our usual area targets were closed, so there we were. Never read a review, so no expectations.

We're really glad we went! We were seated promptly; the service was actually rather amazing - we never had to wait to ask questions or order, nor were we pestered by over-attentiveness. Perfect balance.

I had something I very rarely have: fish and chips. Four good-sized chunks of halibut in a wonderful, light batter; generous cuts of fresh potato, perfectly cooked. I waved one of the fries under my companion's nose: 'what do you smell?' - 'Potato!' The experience was perfectly cooked battered fish and potato, not oil (which I expect, and why I rarely order f&c).

They have a decent beer list with local microbrews - some organic - which was perfect with the above. I had the 'beer flight' (array of 3) and particularly liked the perfectly balanced and aromatic Manny's Pale Ale. Dessert was their version of strawberry shortcake: based on a very solid lemony cake, fresh strawberries, whipped cream and a scoop of house-made strawberry sorbet. Good finish to the main.

My companion has allergies and these were dealt with creatively and without condescension (always a treat when that happens!).

In fairness, this was July 4th evening, and the place was less than half full; but we would certainly go back to explore the other dishes.

Oysters. Nuff said

by danic81

Their happy hour deal is a steal... great oysters and draft beers for a great price, and it's not busy at all!

The bar staff is also extremely friendly and chatty. They did assume that we were from out of town, but I'll give them that, as they are in a hotel. Down to earth, helpful... just right

This is where you get your Oysters!

by blue_highways

Ok. So Shuckers in in a hotel. Its not standard hotel food. And besides, its not just a standard hotel. Its the Fairmont Olympic. I'll get to that later. Shuckers is where you go for Oysters. You want your Oysters to be prepared perfectly, right? It doesn't matter if you prefer Oysters in the Half Shell. Oysters Rockefeller, Oysters Casino or however you like. Shuckers is THE place to get your Oysters. In fact, I make a habit of enjoying Oysters Rockefeller at the bar. Its a classy place, but not snobby.

  • Pros: great place to meet your friends or make friends
  • Cons: they have to close sometimes

Seafood as it Should Be

by pvisf

Shucker's knows their oysters!! No less than 6 kinds of local oysters, plus 8 kinds of imported varieties. Absolutely fresh and full of flavor. Seafood chowders are great as well.

Interior is a little gimmicky and the wine list is only okay and very pricey. However, these are the best oysters in Seattle.

  • Pros: Local and imported oysters, chowders
  • Cons: pricey wine list

A comfortable, old-style Northwest setting where oysters are the draw.

by Contributor

The Scene
Inside, the Fairmount Olympic Hotel's casual oyster bar resembles a chapel: shadowed, quiet, sheathed in dark wood, with recessed seating along one wall. Local business people predominate at lunch; hotel guests and other out-of-towners at dinner. Business wear mixes affably with denim and shorts.

The Food
As the name implies, oyster selections are plentiful, and the bivalves earn respectful attention, especially the plump, crispy fried version. It's possible to make a satisfying meal of the tomato-broth seafood chowder and the Irish-soda-bread muffins that come in the bread basket. Sandwiches--grilled portobello on potato bread and ahi on grilled sourdough--appear at lunch; steaks at dinner. Chalkboards announce daily seafood specials.

Spendy, but worth it

by piri_piri

I had dinner here last night, and it was excellent. The fresh fish menu changes daily, but if you have the chance to order jumbo scallops, do it! At $26, it wasn't cheap, but the scallops were fat and juicy, and the portion consisted of at least 6 of them. Also, the macadamia nut crusted key lime pie was off the charts! This is definitely the restaurant to take your folks or relatives to when they're visiting from out of town--and picking up the bill. ;-)

  • Pros: Personable waitstaff, Good-sized portions, Yummy key lime pie
  • Cons: A little spendy, no free parking, really warm inside

Worth the trek up town!

by countrycitygal

Had a wonderful lunch at Shucker's with 3 business associates last week. They had the Clam Chowder and Ceasar Salads and I had the Green Goddess Salad with Shrimp, Dungeoness Crab and Avocado, which was a delicious meld of the above ingredients. I was in the mood for something a little out of the ordinary that wouldn't leave me feeling overstuffed. I was delighted with my choice! The waitstaff was attentive without being overbeing and the atmosphere at lunch was pleasant. Definitely a mix of business people, "ladies who lunch" and visitors from out of town. There were even several families with young, well behaved children there! I highly recommend Shucker's to anyone wanting great seafood and a classic Seattle restaurant atmosphere!

I always enjoy Shuckers when I whenever I visit Seattle. A trip would not be complete otherwise. Dinning at the bar or a table is quite comfortable and elegant. Ambience, food and service are flawless. THIS IS the place to go for Oysters as well as Martinis! If you have not been to Shuckers, you'll be glad when you do. And you will return with pleasure.
