A surprise gem
by tjcougs99 at Citysearch
The food served here is unlike any Mexican food I've had before. No longer can I eat at other "wanna-be" Mexican restaurants now that I've had the real deal. Frida's rich decor is a nice surprise, including chandeliers, tropical bar and a harpist (she played Stairway to Heaven - how cool is that!). The food is completely gourmet and the drinks are strong (try the Mango Margarita). Frida's downside - the horrible service. There is one employee who insists on conducting a loud conversation on his cell phone right next to our table when he should be waiting on us - EVERY SINGLE TIME! It puts us off on the experience and we swear we won't go back- if it wasn't for the delicious food!
- Pros: food, ambience, drinks
- Cons: service, service, service
Cold food

I was attracted to this restaurant by all the excellent reviews and the amazing website they have on the internet. This information makes Frida?s sound like the best place to go for traditional Mexican food. However I have to disagree. The service was poor. We stood for several minutes waiting for the host to acknowledge we were there to begin with; once we were seated we were left unattended for long time. Later, they brought us the usual and still unusual stale chips/bread and salsas/dips. We order the shrimp empanadas and I got to tell you they were awful! The filling tasted more like cream of mushroom soup. They were overcooked and yet cold, covered in a steaming sauce that gave the appearance of hot, fresh food - no shrimp by the way? After one bite? I was finished with trying the empanadas and worried about what was coming next. I ordered the Enchiladas Suizas because it was recommended. My husband ordered a shredded beef burrito. The taste was not impressive, the way the food was presented on the plate seemed nice but unnecessary because of the flavor. The pastries looked good but we were really turned off by the whole experience. I wonder if maybe we were not as lucky as the ones who love this place but honestly, the price and quality of food and service made a huge first impression and therefore we won?t be going back or recommending Frida to any of our friends.
Good luck!
Reminds me of Mexico City

So you're used to a platter filled with refried beans, rice, and an enchilada smothered in cheese? That's nice but take a chance on something more authentic at this attractive neighborhood restaurant. I worked on and off in Mexico City and got used to "real" gourmet Mexican food so I was thrilled to find this place near home. Try the amazing prawns with mushrooms and lime butter or the to-die-for tortilla soup. And if you still have room go for one of their petite but tasty desserts. This is a great place.
- Pros: Authentic, Creative, Delicious
- Cons: service can be slow

The name caught my attention. The food satisfied my soul. Close to if not authentic. Reminded me of my travels to Mexico. And were not talking resorts. I really enjoyed the atmosphere and service as well. Very friendly.
Too bad the service stinks

Been there three times so I know it isn't just a one time thing, but the service is just rotton. They try to pass it off as an upscale Mexican restaurant, and the food is quite good. Portions are on the small side for the price. What really ticked me off was that I wanted a drink (more money for them) but no one would come around! The help stood in a corner chatting away while the customers looked around for someone to give them service. No mas!
- Pros: Food is okay
- Cons: Lackluster service, price, variety
