I have been to Casuelitas 9 times. The food is what keeps me coming back. In every single experience there the exact same thing happens. We walk in, wait about ten minutes while getting completley ignored. Ask 1-4 employees if there is any tables available to which they all reply with a look of confusion and say they'll check. Finally get sat, then continue to be ignored while server after server walks by us. About 20 minutes after that we get water and a promise to be right back. 20 minutes after that the server comes back to take our drink orders, 15 minutes after that our drinks arrive at which time we franticly order our food. Aaaand roughly 45-60 minutes after THAT our food arrives. And please, whatever you do, dont expect a re-fill for your water. When the food finally does arrive it is absolutely spectacular. Literally some of the best I have ever had. But for the love of god can i please just get a little service! I am VERY low maintenace when it comes to being served a drink or food but this place is just absurd. Bottom line, food great, service horrible.

Pros: food

Cons: service

The food here is amazing! In response to other reviews, the food is worth any bad service that you might receive (although I have been there at lease a dozen times and never had a poor service experience). Plan ahead with a reservation (Someone commented that they called on Friday for a 7pm reservation that night??! Really? Not sure what restaurants they go to, but this is a cool spot that is getting more and more attention, not sure how you can be disgruntled about not getting in). If you have to wait, oh well, chill out, relax and enjoy some rum. Also, the ribs are a must have. They are unbelievable!

Pros: Hidden spot, Food, Happy Hour

Cons: None

I'll save you some time and say that out of 5 times that I have been there I have had good service 4 times. Not to be gender biased, but the waiters there are a far better group than waitresses. The girls that fill the water did well, but the main waitress was not so good. She forgot 2 of our items in a party of 4, and then had a serious attitude problem when inquired about the location of such food. It is true what they say about the service...they could give a sh@t! HOWEVER, the food is great! Just be prepared to sit and wait for a while and watch the seemingly lost waitress wander around and wonder to yourself "what is she doing?".

Pros: Great food!

Cons: Bad service and you leave smelling like you were cooking with the food!

I want to start out by saying that the food is really good. This has been one of, if not my favorite restaurant in Belltown & Seattle but our last two visits have made me want to post a review to warn future customers. The past two times we have eaten here we had six people at our table. We asked for seperate checks but were told by our server that she could not do that. As we came to find out the reason for her doing that is they have a policy of adding 18% gratuity to parties of 6 or more (the menu does not state that anywhere). We understand that restaurants add the gratuity with larger tables but we should know about the charge...our server deceitfully "hid" the charge without showing on our bill the gratuity charge. Since we did not know about the automatic gratuity for the past two visits in a row we tipped our server the 18% automatic gratuity PLUS about 20% on top of that...When we finally caught on to her game we brought it to the attention of the owners. They were pleasant but did not seem to be that alarmed by their employee stealing from us. When you own a company those you hire are a reflection of you...Our servers dishonesty has left a really bad taste in our mouth. If you decide to eat here please look over your bill to make sure you are not being taken advantage of by this dishonest server.

Pros: Food, Ambience, Authentic

Cons: Dishonest server, Bad Customer Service!

I heard some great things about this restaurant so we called to make a reservation on Friday night. A lady answer the phone, and she said she would not be able to make a reservation unless its more than 5 people. I said " We have four people and hoping to come around 7pm " then that lady asked my last name and she said she would find us a table with no problem. well, we got to the restaurant and after ringering around the bar area which was packed for about 20 minutes ( no waiters paid attention to four of us!), the restaurant manager (female ) finally said " Do you need help?" so I mentioned about the phone conversation and the manager said " I cannot believe anyone of our staffs said that. There is no table available." We tried to validate the experience on the phone but she insisted that " Its not our staff who said that." I mean there is no "sorry" or anything? They should learn customer service. Yes price looks cheap so something has to be compensated.

this place would have to be one of the greatest places in belltown. I would have to say they have great food. Especially for happy hour (my fav is the shrimp skewers). and their drinks are also pretty good.

Pros: great food, great prices, great drinks, and also great service

Cons: find a seat in the bar can be kinda hard since its small

I just went to the Judkins location of this restaurant and had an amazing meal! The waitstaff was extremely friendly and helpful with their recommendations, but most of all the food was amazing! All the dinner entres come with a yummy and very fresh salad as well as coconut cornbread. I cannot rave enough about the cornbread! The j erk chicken I got came with rice with beans in it as well as mustard greens. Everything was delicious beyond belief! The ginger beer is just like I remember it from living abroad, and the j erk spices were as authentic as it gets. For dessert our server steared us towards the haitian bread pudding, and, full as we are, my friend and I devoured every single bite of it! This restaurant is going down as one of my new favorites in Seattle, and I highly recommend anyone try it out!

You walk into this great place with all of your senses immediately filled with elation in knowing that you are about to experience something great! Starting with happy from 4-7pm daily. They have 2$ wells and beer. They also feature and 3,4, and 5$ food menu. Papas Fritas are my absolute favorite. They have pulled chicken, the greatest fritters which you can get in a variety of 'flavors'. A chicken sandwhich to die for as well as coconut prawns, yummy. Me and a friend go there for happy quite a bit and we usually get 4 different apps and 2 drink each and spend about 25 bucks. You cannot beat it!! Dinner is also great. My 2 favorites are the brazillian vatapa and the one dish i wish was always on the menu but is a special from time to time the seafood bouillabaisse. Their Gumbo is also excellent. You pretty cannot go wrong with the food choices there. Now, lets talk atmosphere. Bright orange stucco walls, with carribean art displayed everywhere. You really feel like you are somewhere in the carribean and its like a mini vacation right in your backyard! The bar is quant with stairs leading up to the main dining area. Everything about this place oozes carribean culture. The waitstaff are always happy, nice, and glad that you are there! Always dressed in all black and ready for to serve you. Yes the service can be a bit slow at times but when you are there with friends you don't seem to mind because you have greast drinks and the company of your party. I have also met a lot of people there and you always feel right at home. There is a rum list to die for. It goes on and on so go ahead and try them! All around, this place is great. So please come on down and enjoy yourself!

Pros: Food, Spirits, Atmosphere

Cons: Service can be slow

Love the atmosphere -- smallish, colorful and bright -- and the place SMELLS delicious. We ordered three starters for two people -- and it was like ordering three whole entrees -- TONS of food! We had the ribs: fall off the bone, meaty, and about 8 ribs for $8. We tried the salt cod fritters: just crispy enough and great with the avocado salsa and cole slaw. And we loved the Camarones Barachos: a plate of rum soaked grilled shrimp with grilled veggies. The only disappointment: the curried goat Id heard so much about. Didnt taste curried and was more like a potroast. But the sweet potatoes are delicious and the basmati rice is seriously addicting. Oh, and we tried the whole fish of the day -- escovietched -- Red Snapper -- and that was rewardingly spicy.

Pros: Ribs, Camarones Barachos, basmati rice

Cons: curried goat

My husband and I just returned from a great lunch at Casuelitas (the sister restaurant on S. Judkins). I had the bar-b-q pork sandwich, my husband had the chicken sandwich. Both were delicious. Best of all were the cornbread muffins loaded with shredded coconut - melt in your mouth! The service was quick, attentive and friendly. I can't wait to try other tempting items on the menu.

Pros: Service, Variety, take out available

A flavorful, laid-back taste of the Caribbean in Seattle's only real rum joint.  See the full editorial review.
