Food stands out -- Service holds it back

by res03hrk at Citysearch

This was our first visit to this waterfront resturant attached to the Marriott. We pulled up to what we thought was the front of the resturant, but turns out to be a private entrance for the condos next door. You need to pull into the Marriott main entrance, you can just valet park & they will validate your ticket. You walk into the dining room, the mood is modern, but relaxed and dimly lit. Our first impression of the service was what appeared to be the manager. Stepping to the podium, he didn't say a word, but looked down at the screen. The hostess showed up a minute later, greeted us and showed us to our table.

Our friendly waitress took our drink order. They have a nice Northwest wine selection, 1/2 bottles and wine flights. It took a very long time for our waitress to return with our drink order. My 12 year old ordered a Shirley Temple, it came to the table mixed with soda water, rather than 7-up. We had go to the bar to get it fixed, as again we waited for some time for the staff to come back to the table.

Appetizers were well executed. Crab cakes were a little cold, had a nice crisp crust & subtle flavor. There were several flatbreads to choose from. We choose the fig, proscuttio, gorgenzola flat bread. The sweet fig jam, the salty proscuttio and gorgenzola pair well together. The bread was crispy with a slight chew to it. Dinner came (finally), scallops with Isralie cous cous and fennel. Scallops were seared to perfection and paired well with the cousous & fennel. My husband ordered a steak, again well executed with grilled onions and barbeque style sauce with mustard undertones and not too sweet. For dessert we ordered the molten choc. cake & a banana cake with merange. The banana cake was still frozen & the molten cake looked like it had exploded on the plate.

I'd recommend the flat breads and small plates, hopefully they'll get the service up to par soon. Also note the lobster is from Maine & not Australian.

best piano player in Seattle!

by mroch at Citysearch

I have been dining here for business and pleasure since it has opened - the food, usually excellent, but not consistant - the one thing that brings me back (and everyone I know!) is the BEST piano player in town! Junie knows more tunes than any musician I have met, always has a smile, and knows more about Seattle than most concierge! She has made many a birthday, anniversary and business dinner special!

She is a treasure to Seattle and to this hotel.

  • Pros: live music!
  • Cons: ok food

Not worth putting up with the terrible service

by bettydog at Citysearch

Astoundingly bad service. The wait staff completely forgot one of our entrees (why did she think he wouldn't want dinner???) The drinks were late?we had to ask for them twice. We had to ask for bread, otherwise we would have had nothing to eat for 30 minutes. Appetizers finally arrived?no utensils. Fortunately, you can eat oysters without a fork, but it gets kinda rude to just shove food with your fingers. Had to wait for utensils. Food sat in front of us...

Main course was OK as far as I could tell, but that was because we were ravenous by the time we got it. And only two of us actually got food in front of us?then our plates were cold by the time the third plate was scrambled together... Empty plates stayed on the table. And, of course, it took forever to get the tab. No restaurant is worth this.... I can get better service at the QFC where the food is about the same and the prices are better.

  • Pros: Food was alright
  • Cons: Service was beyond terrible

Great lunch value!!!

by mike1037 at Citysearch

My wife and I happened upon this restaurant while walking the piers on a Sunday afternoon. While the lunch menu was limted, we both found something we really liked. Her fish and chips were excellent, and my burger was perfectly seasoned and cooked. The service was some of the best I have encountered in a while. Lunch was a great way to try really good fare, while avoiding the $35 average entree price for dinner. We will be bringing friends back for sure!!!

  • Pros: Lunch was a great value!
  • Cons: it would be at least a $100 dinner out for two...

Great Service, Potentially Great Food, HORRIBLE chef

by sillypiggi at Citysearch

My husband and I went to Fish Club for our anniversary. The service was probably the best we have ever received. The waiter was extremely attentive and knew the offerings quite well. He even took most of the bones off a whole cooked fish for my husband because he only knows how to eat fillets. However, the food was horrible. We had flatbreads for appetizer; while it was good, it was nothing to write home about. My husband had a fried whole rainbow trout with tomato chutney. The trout, while visually appealing, was quite dry. The tomato chutney was sickenly sweet. On the other hand, my swordfish was perfectly tender and moist, but it was as salty as the sea water! For the first time ever, I was tempted to send the dishs back, but I didn't want to make a scene and ruin our anniversary. Being an avid foodie and cook, I see great potential in the recipes and quality of the ingredients. It is a shame that the dishes were so poorly executed. Perhaps it was a one time fluke, but the dishes tasted so horrible that we definitely will not return.

  • Pros: Amazing service, Potentially good food
  • Cons: Chef can't cook

Best Seafood in Seattle!

by seattlekatie at Citysearch

Everything about this restaurant is fantastic! Everything was delicious- I highly suggest the seafood paella (stay away if you don't like spicy though!). Service was friendly and without the usual "I don't care" attitude that seems to be the norm for Seattle restaurants. By far the best seafood in Seattle... great for a romantic evening out if you can get one of the private tables in the hall!

  • Pros: Great food, knowledgable servers, complimentary valet parking
  • Cons: Gets noisy when crowded

Fantastic

by megknight at Citysearch

Great food. The only con might be that the staff was a bit TOO attentive if that is possible. But the food was amazing, and well worth the money. Free valet parking, so parking is easy.

  • Pros: food, value

Chef Chris is fabulous

by westendgirl_32 at Citysearch

I have been to the fish club for brunch, lunch, happy hour, dinner, and I can honestly say I have never been let down. After this last trip, I just had to post a review. The butternut squash tortolli is unbeleivable! Goat cheese gnocci? Sooooooo good! And let me tell you the trout saltimbocca? W-O-W! I also was very impressed with their concoctions from the bar. Over the summer they were delightful, but getting ready for fall ( a bit early ), I opted for a heavier classic, a martini garnished with a rosemary sprig and a gorgonzola stuffed olive. It was pure perfection. My boyfriend loved the crab cakes and the sorbets. Service may not be impeccable, but who wants an incredibly snooty waiter looking down his nose at you? They are always very professional, VERY helpful, and always willing to answer your questions.

  • Pros: comp valet parking, incredible food, happy hour
  • Cons: a bit loud

If you happen to be staying at the hotel.....

by brenthsea at Citysearch

You'll be surprised that you get something a little better then your average Hotel fare, but - for Seattle it's definately a pass in the resturant scene.

  • Pros: Comfy Chairs, Open Kitchen/View
  • Cons: Food Quality, Bar Quality, Layout

Love the Fish Club. This restaurant is the hidden gem in Seattle. I work in the restaurant industry and must say that this place is fabulous. My husband and I have always had a great dining experience and we come here often. We take all of our out-of-town guests here and recommend this place to everyone. The food is fabulous. The service is fabulous. The hosts and managers are fabulous. Love the valet service.
