WONDERFUL EXPERIENCE!
by kd22283
The service is fabulous, the ambiance is killer, the food is delicious and Jerry the chef is a real treat! I will definitely be back!
- Pros: best french onion soup and TO DIE FOR crabcakes!
Great experience...we'll be back!

We loved the outside of Carnegie's and just had to see the inside! The great news is that the restaurant lives up to the amazing architecture on the inside as well as the outside.
We tried the Prix Fixe menu; we started with the French onion soup and the tossed field greens. The soup had a great, hearty flavor and I savored it to the last spoonful. The salad was nicely dressed and tasted fresh and clean. Next, we had the Coq au Vin and the duck confit...both were perfectly prepared and definitely noteworthy. We finished with dessert (can't recall what we had) and wrapped up our evening.
All in all, it was a great experience and we'll be back!
Great French Find--in spite of the bad fake flowers
by KLynnPatterson
The four of us splurged and ordered an array of appertizers, entrees, and desserts. The onion gruyere soup was to die for. The calamari was tasty, and the smoked salmon with a potato cake was most excellent. The entree swere quite tasty and reasonable compared to Le Gourmand and others in the area., although the wines were a little pricey. I had the seafood marvarin which was well seasoned and had ample amounts of salmon, shrimp, and other seafood favorites.
The restaurant itself is quaint, and we loved the period lighting and other touches that honored the historical charm of this landmark building. Our only disappointment was the elaborate fake flower arrangement which seemed out of place in this otherwise classy setting. Fresh flowers would bring the room up to par with the food--really!
- Pros: Food, romantic, nice room, service, menu selections
- Cons: fake flowers, some listed menu items not available
AMAZING!
by traveler430
The food, the place, and the staff were amazing. Try the calamari, french onion soup, and steak bernaise...absolutely amazing. The steak was cooked perfect and was the best steak I have ever tasted. Also make sure you save room for the chocolate mousse...it is to die for!
- Pros: Great Food, Great Staff, Overall Amazing!
My favorite place in Ballard
by mrsshock
I love this place. My husband and I love to have the small plates at the bar. They make the best martinis. The french onion soup is the best I've ever had. The chocolate mouse is perfection.
- Pros: Food, Drinks, Wine
My Favorite Restaurant
by cghs
Carnegie's is the most consistently good, excellent restaurant in Seattle. I have never been disappointed and have eaten there at least 15 times. It is a nice location for lunch meetings and dinner is wonderful, especially for the value.

I discovered this place, then went back 3 times in 2 weeks. The food is well-conceived and expertly executed... every bite is perfect, from the creme asparagus soup to the steak bernaise (best steak I've ever eaten), to the chocolate pistachio torte or the goat cheese cake with fig jam. The fresh fish special is always delicious too. The waiters and chefs make great food and wine recommendations, the restaurant is lovely... I just can't recommend this place highly enough.
Had my wedding there
by gerald_ford
My wife and I planned a small wedding (40 people max) and wanted a place that was beautiful and could also provide dinner. Carnegie's provided both, and the night was sensational.
The decor is really beautiful, and provided the perfect scene for our wedding. The food was classic and fantastic and guests could choose from 3 different dinners, all of which were well-enjoyed by guests.
Carnegie's is great. My wife and I will be going there again.
- Pros: decor, atmosphere, food
Need to get organized!
by sandradeen
I really wanted to like Carnegie's. I support fledgling independent restaraunts. It's a super convenient location in an innovative setting. However, I found the service lacking. Our server took so long to take our order we finally flagged down the hostess. (she ended up waiting on us too because he was so busy) Strangely, they had a lot of staff, but not enough designated to do the right things. Since they have an open kitchen we got to hear the chef's frustrations while we were waiting for our table. IN THEIR DEFENSE, IT WAS NEW YEAR'S EVE. However, it made it even more alarming when a staff member told us it was her first day. Food was good, though, and the price not bad. Do not go if you're in a hurry. Good ambience, good date restaurant. I may go back, but I hope they get their service together!
- Pros: Ambience, Food
Wonderful!!!!!

We've eaten here several times and the food, ambiance and service never disappoint. The ambiance is always serene and calm. The food is always flavorful, perfectly executed and artistic. The service is always attentive and professional. Their prix fixe menu, $26 for a three course dinner is one of the best values in town.
- Pros: serene ambiance, great value, delicious food
