I have been a member of Rain for over 3 years and am continuously impressed with the services and classes provided to members. The pros: The gym has great cycling instructors, an amazing Body Pump class that they launched a few months ago that keeps my booty in check, and personal trainers that fit all types of learning styles (I like Laura, who works you hard but still gives great positive affirmation.) The gym is clean, machines always are in working order, and this is about as far from a meat market as you can get. All shapes and sizes are welcome, and desired. Oh and the view of the Sound from the treadmills is always wonderful. The cons: If you are looking for the Ritz of gyms this is not for you. You pay for your towel, if you forget your own. The owner can be a bit brash and uncompromising. Good group-x instructors come and go. There is no pool or sauna. Also, hours on the weekend can be a bit prohibitive. However, overall, the gym is great and none of the other local gyms that are in Rain’s price range come even close as competition.

I must say I was pleasantly surprised. Having not worked out before, I am not quite sure what I expected. Everyone was very nice and the facility was very beautiful. I happen to love old buildings and the space and views of the sound were simply amazing. I was concerned about ny lack of experience and they helped put my fears to rest. I met with Dan the trainer, very nice and very informative. He tested my current level of fitness and spent time on the floor with me, and helped me realize how out of shape I am. I am now in my third week and going. I have not tried any classes but I sure am sore from the work that Dan gave me. I have also been doing rowing at the new facility, I rowed in college years ago. The new place is very nice too, and the young lady at the desk already knows my name. Comfortable environment and well worth the money.
Pros: clean and new, low key
Cons: no towel hooks

Rain Fitness is great.....great staff! the trainers here are very personable and helpful. The staff is friendly and the gym is very clean. The facilities are new and very sanitary. The classes are fun and the schedule is very flexible. Parking is free and there are three different lots that are close by. The trainers are very concerned about your fitness and strives to make exercise fun and easy. Best of all, the gym is located with a great view of elliot bay. Overall, you get a great workout, the gym is clean, and the staff is very friendly.
Pros: Clean, large facility, knowledable staff, and parking available

I don't what problem the last 2 reviews had,but their complaints are completely untrue! I've been a member since Rain Fitness first opened, and have been extremely happy with with the Facility, the management, and the staff! Very comfortable,no pressure sales what-so-ever,and a knowledgeable training staff that are there for their clients. All the equipment is very clean and well maintained, great classes available usually at no charge. Not a lot of hype and frills,if you want a great place to workout that's friendly, clean, and well maintained, then you'll love Rain Fitness!!!
Pros: Great personable staff, clean, and spacious(Great view of Elliot Bay)!
Cons: Parking is tight, but where in the city ISN'T it difficult

Rain Fitness' business practices are as bad as any of the big name clubs; e.g. they refuse to cancel your membership even after giving 30 days written notice, their employess harass you, and their trainers are of poor quality. (Myself and 2 other friends have gotten injured during training sessions with their staff.) Do yourself a favor and join another gym. As well, the parking situation is horrendous. They promise you access to a parking lot nearby but that facility has extremely limited access and they also ignore your Rain Fitness parking sticker and give out frequent tickets. As well, there is very little street parking available.
Pros: View of Elliott Bay from upstairs windows
Cons: Poor business practices, inadequate trainers, lack of parking, smelly facility, dirty locker rooms, no paper towels & toilet paper in the bathroom

The facilities are nice, but just as nice as other places in the neighborhood. I had to schedule an appointment to find out the rates - why? Then hear about the incentive package - why not just tell me how much and save the high pressure sales pitch. Obviously they work on commission. I was also quoted a different price then my friend who had been in 2 days before. They all have great potential as used car salesmen if this jig doesn't work out for them.

I really want to echo what LisaL said in here review...How are you going to sign a contract and not then get angry about it's terms? I have been a member at Rain for years and have never had any of these problems with Glen. Glen is a great guy with a great sense of humor who talks to you like a friend, not just a member. The gym itself is clean and not cruisy. If you live in the Belltown, Queen Anne or Magnolia areas and have not given Rain a look yet? You are really missing out. John has also been very accommodating in my experiences with him and is also a fantastic guy. The people are really what make Rain if you ask me. Ryan (Magnolia)
Pros: Great owner, awesome views, CLEAN

The facilities, staff and the view of Elliott Bay make the original Rain Fitness on Western Avenue the best deal in town for health clubs. I only say it's my second favorite because I like the new one of 9th even more. You can't miss.

The management at Rain Fitness is so poor I cannot recommend this gym. Most of my friends are cancelling because of hassles with management. I was a member for 2 years, and the trainers and instructors are all great. Unfortunately, Glenn (the owner) makes signing up or cancelling your plan a hugely inconvenient and drawn-out ordeal. You can't do it over the phone, he'll make you come in. But you'd better be lucky enough to come in when he happens to be there, because nobody else is authorized to deal with customers. You shouldn't need an appointment to sign up, and you certainly shoudn't need one to cancel either. This is a service industry, and I would not recommend that anybody sign up a gym that treats their customers with such disdain.

When I moved to Seattle last summer finding a new gym was top priority. I checked out a lot and tried out a few as a guest, one of which was rain. The staff was friendly and made me feel welcome. I tried rain several more times and each time the staff greeted me, I found the equipment to be consistently clean, great line up of classes, and a personal trainer I clicked with to kick my workouts up a knotch. It was a no brainer this was the place to join. I would encourage you to read your contract when you sign up so you know what you're getting into before commiting to it. rain's contract is very similar to a lot of gyms (at least those I've seen). As far as the comment about no prices on the website and wondering if it was high-pressure sales gym ... if you check out web sites for other gyms you'll notice most don't post their membership prices either or give them out over the phone. At least in the case of rain I know its not to draw you in and give you a high pressure pitch (which you won't get there). I wholeheartedly encourage those considering a new gym to go and check it out you won't be disappointed. Michelle C. - rain member since 8/2006
Pros: Great location, staff, equipment, free parking
