I was really excited to go to 35th St Bistro after reading the reviews, so I made reservations for my husband's birthday. I needn't have bothered, it was a weeknight and there were hardly three tables that were occupied. That is why I was so surprised when it took them 20-25 minutes to bring us bread. The service was slow over all, but I didnt mind. It went along well with the music and ambience. Now the food- I ordered the beet salad which was good and my husband ordered the scallops which was flavorful. For our entrees, I ordered their pan roasted chicken.. it looked yummy but it was absolutely lacking any flavor. It was actually hard for me to eat the whole thing. I felt like I was eating boiled chicken. My husband ordered the rabbit which was just alright, again, lacking flavor. And for dessert we had the fruit tart which was once again average.. Overall it was a disappointment. Totally not worth the $110 I spent on both of us. I saw a lot of people having their burger and fries.. maybe that is their specialty!!

Pros: good ambience

Cons: food, parking

I had the Eggs Benedict and the Swiss Chard that came with it was perfectly sauteed...not overcooked at all.

Can we get more of these restaurants? What do I mean? Ok...they use way cool ingredients AND they make it taste really, really good. Great atmosphere, too - they take care of you, its great music, nice ambience - not trying hard to be cool / sophisticated / new yorkish in so far that they don't try hard at being cool - they just are..this is 35th st. bistro. They use locally farmed food stuffs. Nice. Their meat comes from pasture animals - no hormones or antibiotics. It's just nice. No hormones w/ that - thanks. These are the types of places we need to get more of here. Grab their bistro burger - I got it the last time I was in and it was tight. My wife got the braised short ribs - quite nice. They could turn up the music a little bit though. Other than that...spot on. Nice french bistro experience w/ some credibility behind it...

Pros: The food - ambience - music

Cons: volume

I went here for a romantic dinner last weekend and was pleasantly surprised from the beginning. We were promptly seated under the lit tree. The restaurant has a very warm cozy feel, alot of charm. I had the beet salad which was good, but I may have had overly high expectations from the prior reviews. My boyfriend had the tuna carpaccio which was flavorful but the olives completely overpowered the tuna. I HIGHLY recommend the Muscovy Duck and steak frites... they really know how to do the classics. My duck was so tender and had a wonderful sauce, the steak was very juicy. We had the profiterols which was average actually... i probably wouldnt order it again. Service was nice. Dinner for 2 was $92 before tip. 2 apps, 2 entrees, 1 dessert and 2 drinks. Very reasonable prices. Overall, i would definitely come back, great restaurant!

Pros: Great food, nice ambiance,

Cons: none

I thought the food was very average. One big yawn and bill. I wouldn't go back even if someone else was paying. Okay, maybe if someone else was paying.

Cons: standard fare, overpriced, uninspiring

The fries--excuse me, the "bistro frites"--are the stuff of fantasy, covered in creme fraiche, I could eat them all night. Them, and the cheese plate (huge, and with tasty things like chocolate shavings, jams and other treats along with 5 generous portions of cheese), and teh happy hour specials at the bar, are enough to keep me coming here long after I moved away from Fremont. But the dinner specials should also not be overlooked. They try to do organic and seasonal I think, and the results are always stellar--tender meat, perfectly cooked fish, a great bouillabaise--with affordable wines and really great servers. Totally dependable date spot or "meet the parents" night.

i went there for a friend's birthday. The food wsas cold after an hour wait. After talking with mgt. we were given a credit for $20 only! The total bill was over $150! My food was cold then reheated in a microwave! How is a restaurant still in business with these practices! I will NEVER go back. I highly recomend you do the same. I have never been so unhappy with service.

Pros: none

Cons: terrible service

I've been there twice and I plan on going back as often as I can. It's absolutely spectacular. The menu changes but you really can't go wrong. The Oregon Lamb Flank is sensational and the creme brulee is wonderful. The atmosphere is very warm and comforting, you feel like you're in Nice. The service is wonderful except be sure to not be in a hurry, it's a traditional, European sense of dining.

We came in at 7:00 without restervations and lucked out with one of the last tables. We had great wine picked out by our server and enjoyed everything! My boyfriend ordered the Chicken and was an excellent dish!!! The duck was fantastic. However the best thing of the night was the Beet salad different and very light. I could eat that dish everyday! Thanks to the 35th street Bistro!

Pros: service, ambience, food

Cons: wish i would have ordered the cheese plate :(

Insider Tips

Where to Sit

Sunny days draw people-watching crowds to the bistro's relaxed sidewalk patio. Large groups should reserve the sizeable table in a semiprivate nook in the back.
