Tonight we circled this saffron-colored 1920's house looking for clues like a couple of foodie-stalkers, taking in the kitchen, floor staff & a scarce view of the dining areas before deciding to take the plunge... Would this be yet another disappointing I-talian American restaurant that looks promising on paper but leaves you thinking Liberace could have done better? The cheesy Andrea Bocelli soundtrack detracted slightly, as well as plastic flower-filled urns & mirrors--but the food--a mama mia for sure. Our "carello" or assortment of anitpasti items ($9.50 a plate) consisted of perfectly grilled shrimp, roasted red peppers & olives, salty parmesan atop proscuitto, calabrese salad, & bruschetta. We split a generous primi of Fettuccine al Porcini & reveled in its generous slices of earthy mushroom, & cream sauce that coated each strand of pasta. Our veal was fork-tender, succulent, & worthy of seconds, so I brought a little of each home to have a taste of Italy tomorrow.
Pros: Don't overlook the southend for some of the best dining values
Cons: Don't expect Belltown glitz
