Delicious food and romantic setting

by sonia g

We had a great dinner here last night. The food was delicious and I love the atmosphere. It is romantic but not cramped. It is a cheery place that serves serious food without going too over the top. They have staples like pot de creme and steak for dinner while offering more adventuresome items if you feel like it. I love this place.

  • Pros: the food, the wine, the atmosphere
  • Cons: I can't think of anything.

Great brunch!

by queenanne11

Went for brunch on Sunday based on hearing good things. Loved it! The space was beautiful, food was delish, service was polite. It was a little more pricey than some places for brunch, but the food is 100 times better. Look forward to trying it for dinner.

  • Pros: great change of pace from greasy brunch food

Just ok, GREAT mimosa's!

by seattle36

Finally found it!

Once in there, it really is a cute restaurant. The menu left me pondering what to order! Everything sounded so delicious.

We started off our day with a few mimosa's. Probably the best I've ever had! We were enjoying our mimosa's so much that we didn't even realize that it took almost 45 minutes just to get our food. Once we got it, the poached eggs were overcooked. I ordered eggs benedict and one egg was fine, the other cooked through. What a dissapointment, if not for that the entire meal would've been very delicious. We shared the bread pudding for dessert. That was very delicious and a very big portion!

They were pretty busy, we got there right when they opened and didn't leave til almost two hours later since it took so long to get served. Definetely worth trying again though, especially for the mimosa's!

Strange Location but Cute Space

by billycar

Adorable place but dear god, where do you park? This has got to be one of the oddest locations ever. It's very deceiving because it almost looks like you can drive into the restaurant because it's located at the end of a steep driveway within a commercial office/loft space. It's hard to find on your first try (if you fiind parking) but in the summer with the doors open and breeze coming it it feels like the Secret Garden. I love the umbrellas on the ceiling. The menu is really small and the food was fine but nothing extraordinary. Whatever you do, don't bring your elderly grandmother here for brunch because she'll survive the walk down into the space.

This Boat Has Sailed...

by MarkWA65

I have had the January 2008 issue of Seattle metropolitan magazine sitting on the kitchen table now for

several months and I love reading about the best breakfast hot spots in town. Each month my girlfriend and I take some time to choose one of the restaurants for a Sunday breakfast. Based on the photo in the magazine of an open face bacon, tomato and cheddar sandwich we chose The Boat Street Kitchen.

Finding the restaurant wasn't as hard as I had thought it might be but it is tucked away slightly. The woman at the counter was friendly and informed us the wait would be 35 minutes. Some 55 minutes later someone came around and seated us.

The atmosphere of the restaurant nice, except for music that seemed completely inappropriate for breakfast dining. The sound of french horns and tubas was starting to give me a headache as I looked over the menu. To my astonishment I could not find the delicious looking bacon delight from the magazine.

When the waiter finally got around to our table, now 75 minutes after arriving, we asked about the bacon

sandwich. He informed us that they didn't have it on the menu today and informed me that the chef would not make it for me.

We ordered other dished, and received them now a full two hours into the experience, only to find that the

dishes were bland, cold, and felt uninspired. Our waiter never once smiled nor did he ask us if we needed any refills of coffee, he took our plates without asking if we were done (we weren't), and not once during the dining experience did he ask us if we enjoyed the meal.

By this point I was quite unhappy with the service and food in general so I left an appropriate 75cent tip.

The waiter then ran out of the restaurant after me and yelled "hey buddy sure you don't want any change".

Needless to say, I will never get to taste that bacon sandwich and I hope by writing about this experience I can help someone else avoid the same mistake we made this past weekend.

  • Pros: Decent Ambiance
  • Cons: Rude Service, Cold Food, Bland Food, Long Wait (Avoid At All Costs)

Excellent French food in a casual but sophisticated atmosphere

by joecoco

I've been to several of the top French restaurants in Seattle and this is my favorite. Nice variety on the menu and consistently good every time I go. It's kind of in a strange location, a bit hard to find, but worth it.

Private dining catering

by BookgirlMC

Had a private dinner on a busy Friday evening but you wouldn't know it by the attentive service and excellent food we had. They were very easy to work with setting up the entire business event. They offered guidelines but were willing to work with me on my requirements - I've set up lots of events and they were by far the easiest to work with. And then the food - oh my gosh! We had a cheese plate that was exceptional - candied chestnuts and pickled grapes and pate - so smooth and creamy! Our mixed green salad had fresh blueberries and goat cheese I think. The brisket was perfect as were the crabcakes. The flourless chocolate cake was out of this world. Would use this restaurant again for an impressive business function again and again - its different enough to impress but because they do it so well - you can relax and enjoy the evening too.

  • Pros: Easy to work with catering staff, Thumbs up for private business dinners
  • Cons: Parking

A hidden gem in Seattle!!

by woodog

I absolutely love this place. Husband took me here for the first time on our first date 5 years ago and we've been going back all time!

The food rocks and the price is right!!! We can afford to come here and not have to take a second mortgage out on the house.

I don't mind the fact that sometimes the food does take a little bit to come out but we like to linger and enjoy our meals and not have each course shoved down our throats. There are plenty of restaurnts in Seattle if you are in a hurry......don't come here.

The staff is well versed in recommending wine and Renee carries excellent wine for very fair prices!!

thank you Boat Street Cafe............ you guys are the best!

This place rocks!

by fishtail

I wish I had more time!

I would write the kind of review this place deserves but I don't so here is the short version. My wife and I were downtown for a little shopping spree. We decided to try the Boat Street Cafe because a restaurant owner friend of ours had said it was his favorite restaurant. It was 7pm on a friday night and there was a long wait. We waited at the bar for over an hour but with no reservation what would I expect?

Everyone, the hostess, bartender, server and even the chef at one time or another came by our table to check on us or just to talk. It was hospitality times 10! The food was exceptional and the bread pudding was to die for.

My recomendation - make reservations and plan on spending a wonderful evening wining, dining and socializing.

  • Pros: Hospitality, incredible food, cozy
  • Cons: Small and fills up quickly

Food didn't live up to ambience and price.

by absolutraj

I've only been there once, and I tend to eat at nice restaurants quite often, and maybe I just had a one off less than impressive experience. For starters, the place itself is very nicely decorated, and the ambience is great. The service was excellent. The menu is fairly pricey which is completely ok with me, but I just didn't feel the food lived up to my expectations. I had the Chicken Liver pate for starters which was not bad, my entree however was the Lamb Shoulder which was recommended, but it was not cooked well at all. It took me a while to cut through the tough meat, to the point that my fingers would ache, the sauces seemed quite average, almost as if it were a pre-seasoned steak I could pick up at a safeway. My friend had the roasted Poisson which wasn't bad, but the sauces hadn't sufficiently soaked into the meat, and was very greasy/creamy.

I made the mistake of getting the bordeaux, after trying a couple of other wines. None of them very satisfactory.

Again, I've only been there once, and they have a menu that changes daily, so I'd still say give it a shot if you will. Ihonestly wanted to give the place 3.5 stars if it were possible.

  • Pros: Great Ambience, Friendly service
  • Cons: Food does not deliver to expectations, Wine menu could use help.
