Teeny plates, good drinks.

by btonthehill

Licorous has gotten a ton of rave reviews, so many I think that folks end up being disappointed as the menu is a bit overly complex for what you actually end up eating. The small plates are so tiny and even a bit tasteless. The drinks were quite tasty, a little light on the liquor for what they cost. Go there for a glass of wine while waiting on your table at Lark.

  • Pros: i had great service and a unique drink
  • Cons: food is a bit overrated, descriptions far outweigh actual taste

great late night

by baker4life

this is my new favorite late night spot. they are open late every night. the service was awesome and unpretentious. the drinks were well mixed and the food very good. they had the heat cranked way up, but that is my only complaint. we had most of the menu there, but the things that stuck out were the braised boar cheeks- so good and well seasoned. the boca negra was ethereal- light and decadent at the same time. the foie gras bonbons were not very memorable, but my french 75 was the best I've had ever.

  • Pros: late night food, ambience
  • Cons: parking

For for the drinks, eat somewhere else

by rkulikova

I recently went to Licorous after reading many raving reviews. So,I was really looking forward to my experience. Unfortunately, I was disappointed. We ordered some cocktails, after our waitress slammed 4 water glasses on the table: reminicent of a German brew hall. Our drinks came promptly and all the guests were very happy with their choices. We ordered pairings, but only one of us got our with our drinks. The other pairings came at scattered times, one got their pairing after she had already finished her drink. We all ordered food and these too came at scattered times: which was not made known to us: my friends weren't sharing that night. One guest didn't get his meal until 40 minutes after I got mine! very strange, indeed. Regardless of the waiting time, the food was mediocre, if not bad. I ordered mushrooms and they were salty and greasy: the two tuna plates, again too much salt. The mussels were fantastic though: very plump and juicy. The pear dessert is to die for as are the financiers: chocolate pudding was horrible; couldn't even finish it. One waitress friendly, if a bit too bubbly, I felt like I was in a college hangout, and the other (the German one) seemed really dazed. Overall ambience was good: lighting, seating arrangements I liked. I would go back because it's near my home, but will eat beforehand and just get dessert.

YAY FOR 12th Avenue!

by cheriwan13

It's about time that Lark expanded to get a tru "bar". It's pretty, the colors are calming and the ceilig is gorgeous. The food is good, not as good as next door, but very well executed and thought out. The servings have put us off a few times, but the flavors always make us forget that these are small plates (they are meant to be so, so maybe we're just greedy). The drinks are good, but the rotating glass wine list is really great. Rose in the summer, a nice burgandy sometimes; easy to see there is some thought process going on! Thanks for expanding!

  • Pros: Beautiful space, great bathrooms, flavors excel
  • Cons: smallish plates, parking can be brutal

fantastic!!!

by loosey71

I love this place. It is pretty and the drinks and food are to die for. We have had the same server both times we've been there and she is gracious and sweet. Lark is one of the best in the city and Licorous is its perfect compliment.

Definitely a destination...

by eramberg

Though it was created to handle the spillover and people waiting for Lark, Licorous well deserves to be a destination on its own.

Great cocktails including many imaginative house drinks that have suggested food pairings. It's easy to create a meal from their menu...though difficult to not order everything!

  • Pros: House drinks, fabulous food, and a great look
  • Cons: Parking can be a bit troublesome since it's right next to Seattle U

One of Seattle's best tapas-style cocktail bars

by tamalsmith

Licorous is one of Seattle's best (and hippest) tapas-style cocktail bars. If you like the Sambar, then you'll enjoy this gem in the Capitol Hill area.

  • Pros: Ambience, Food & Cocktail Selection, Staff/Service
  • Cons: Parking, Could end up being an expensive evening

The glittery glamorous sister to next door's refined Lark, this lounge across from Seattle U serves up inventive house cocktails and a friendly-yet-posh demeanor.

In Short
This pretty, feminine room is a classy Capitol Hill hideaway--gauzy red curtains hide it from the street, while the warm color scheme, modern tin ceiling and effusive wait staff create a cozy atmosphere inside. All eight specialty cocktails come solo or paired with small bites to enhance their flavor--try the Renaissance, made with brandy, sweet vermouth, limoncello and bitters, paired with a foie gras bon bon.

Try the pairings!

by scarnz

I loved everything about this spot! From the moment you walk in the urban rustic chic calms your nerves and urges you to relax and enjoy a suptuous experience. And, oh is it. The cocktails are not your standard hip fair. They offer bold and adventurous concoctions that appeal to a variety of discerning tastes. All the house cocktails are $8.5 and for a mere $2 more you get a brilliant and inspired pairing of some delectable food bit--think on-going amuse bouche. The truffle bon bon was gorgeous; the cold pea soup was perfection on a hot summer afternoon; and the rabbit confit will have me going back again and again. AND the service is fabulous--knowledgable, friendly (but not overly so), and very helpful. Great for a quiet hangout or perfect before show at The Empty Space across the street, get to this new Capital offering soon and frequenlty.

  • Pros: AMAZING food, great drinks, wonderful service
  • Cons: um... I guess it's a little pricey?
