Great place to both have a great meal and people watch
by rburke1111
Went to dinner there this past weekend....the food, wine, staff and other diners made for a great nite.
Thank you Purple Seattle!
- Pros: great wine selection
- Cons: nothing
great food, great wine
by bronschar8
I walked into this place to meet some friends for dinner and drinks. Upon entering, I expected the atmosphere to be stuffy and uptight but it was just the opposite!
The wines that we ordered were all amazing and the food was spectacular.
The service was extremely slow and our server rarely checked in on us. She was very nice...maybe they just want you to relax and savor your wine? Either way, we all agreed that the service could be a bit more attentive.
We will definitely come back.
- Pros: food, wine
- Cons: extremely slow service
FUN & DIFFERENT

Purple is a fun restaurant for people who like small plates and sharing! The food was fantastic. Eat upstairs in the bar area as the seats are better than the dining room! Will certainly come back!

- Pros: Creative menu and great service
- Cons: none
Great place for people who like to share
by crit101
I thought the food and wine selection was excellent at Purple. I was a little hesitant to have my birthday celebration (it was a small gathering- only 4 people) at Purple because the reviews I had heard of it were always lukewarm. I am, however, really glad that we went. The tasting bar was a great way to share and try a lot of different types of dishes. We also shared the lobster mac-and-cheese which was a great idea since it was so rich. The flights of wine worked out well because we could try a lot of different kinds and then we ended up ordering a bottle of one that we liked in the flight. All-in-all it was a good meal. The atmosphere was also really nice and we enjoyed our server. The only thing we didn?t like were the chairs. I'm kinda petite (5'3") and had a really hard time sitting in the regular dining chairs for a long time. The chairs were so high and large that my feet couldn't touch the ground and I couldn't lean back without looking like a toddler trying to sit at the big kids table. There is a lounge area upstairs at the Seattle location and those chairs looked much more comfortable for us shorter people. But other than the ogre chairs (that's why they only got 4 stars- the chairs were that bad) I would definitely recommend the place.
- Pros: Good wine, food, and atmosphere
- Cons: ogre chairs
great place!

This is my new favorite place! They have an extensive wine list (you can get samplers!) and great food! The ambiance is great too! I highly recommend this place to hang out with friends, have good conversation. When I went, I saw a group of ladies that came in for a bachelorette party....great idea! the loft upstairs I think they called it a tasting room had the perfect place for a small party!
Ouch! I love this Place!!!

Just had to put in my two cents in response to the slander of my favorite downtown restuarant! I adore Purple. I adore those who have served me there; as a patron and as someone who has been a professional in the industry. There is no restaurant in downtown that spends as much effort to deliver Purple's exceptional selection, amazing ambiance, and comfortable atmosphere. I understand that serving is not an easy position. Service styles vary from person to person. The interaction from person to person is given AND recieved both ways. As a server, I tried to build a relationship with my guests in the short time I had with them. As a GUEST, I do the same. Human interaction is a socail responsibility, ESPECIALLY in a setting in which you are paying for a fellow human to serve you. I have had horrible service in this city too. But out of respect for those who work hard to make me happy in their place of business, I will not sink the ship to drown a termite. Some day there should be a Citysearch where servers can go and slander you ill behaved guests, notate their PERSONAL OPINIONS about YOUR place of employment and potentally harm the success of YOUR business and the many other employees relying on it's longevity. Until then, shame on you. You are lame and exactly why I quit this industry a long time ago.
Purple, I commend you! Congratulations on your success, I will be back!
Overpriced and stuffy

We went there for a party and were charged a lot of money for pretty standard food. The people there were pretty pretentious.
- Pros: Food
- Cons: Service, atmosphere, price
Rare Find in Downtown Seattle
by seliger
After all too many disappointing restaurant experiences in downtown Seattle and Belltown, Purple is a great place . . . many wines by the bottle reasonably priced, inventive food (try the Prix Fixe menu for a bargain), friendly and efficient wait staff, a knowledgeable Sommelier, no corkage fee if you want to BYOB and a bright space with huge windows.
- Pros: Lots of well priced wine choices
- Cons: None
Good wine list, bad food.

I expected more when I visited Purple about a week ago, as I had heard good things. To my disapointment the food was lacking in flavor and I could barely have a conversation with my boyfriend who was sitting right across from me. I was closer to the gentelman at the table next to me than I was to my boyfriend.
