We go to Tarragona most Friiday evenings when we are in town. Paula, the owner is wonderful at finding good wines at great prices. She is very helpful and friendly. There are a number of people who come to the tastings each week. Its a great way to start the weekend. The shop is attractive and well stocked. The tasting is at no cost to us, though we usually buy one or more bottles of wine. There are wines from all over the world and the tastings vary a great deal with the seasons. We tried a number of excpetional Roses this summer. There is a limited number of pastas, cheeses and other food products but all we have bought have been good. It is well worth stopping in. You may become a "regular""

Pros: Good wines and food at great prices- Weekly free wine tasting

Cons: none I can think of

I buy 85% of mine wine from Tarragona. Paula, the proprietress, is fun, practical, and extremely knowedgeable about wine. I've discovered some of my favorite wines at Tarragona. And if I taste something at a bar or restaurant I ask Paula about getting it for me, or she suggests another that I might like better if she knows it. The shop is small, personable, and affordable. Tarragona is my first choice for wine shopping, either for myself or for gifts.

Free wine tastings every Friday from 5-7 are the perfect way to ease into the weekend and meet lots of friendly folks. Tastings usually feature four or five different wines based either on type of grape or region, and I almost always walk away with at least one new find. Staff are approachable and very knowledgable; I've never disliked a recommendation. An on-site refrigerator keeps wine and cheese cool for a quick pick-up on your way to a party. While I'd love to see more gifty items (e.g. books, carafes, novelties) I do appreciate the focus on working their strengths, and that is broad knowlegde about wines from all over the world at very reasonable prices. Buy local!

Pros: Nothing less than $5 or over $50

Cons: Nothing less than $5 or over $50

The selection at Tarragona is modest but selective. The shop is very strong when it comes to moderately priced old-world styled wines from Spain, Southern France, South America and South Africa. They also do a reasonable job of stocking representative bottles from most significant wine producing areas: Italy, Germany, Austria, Australia, etc. While you'll find many more bottles at places like QFC, they are really mostly indistinguishable copies of the same 8-10 wines, and most of them are really the same 3 overoaked new-world style jammy tasting wines that have unfortunately become the fashion among the ignorant masses of occsasional wine drinkers that drive the sales at places like QFC or Safeway. Tarragona's smaller selection is really much broader in terms of the variety of wine styles you will find. Tarragona's weekly tastings are always interesting and generally well attended. They also offer generous case discounts. Finally they offer a decent selection of reasonably priced french and spanish cheeses.

Pros: Unique wines, import-centred selection, weekly tastings

Cons: Small shop size and selection

This place is so clean and presentable when I go in. I need to make it in for a friday wine tasting still, but every time I go I get such great help. Paula the owner is so nice. While I was there she offer a women who had just moved to seattle some great recommendations on places to try and even gave her her card so she could call back with the name of a great wine to track down. Since the woman couldn't remember it right then. You can also get discounts of 13% or 15% when you buy cases even if you mix and match.

Pros: Location, service, other places it's close to

Cons: Parking can be tricky, but look down by the park

I go to Tarragona every Friday for the wine tasting. (Conveniently, I live so close!) They feature different region every Friday, like "Southern Italy," or Southwest France." When I find some amazing wines and buy them right away. I just wish the owners were a bit more...interactive with the customers, like talking about the wines or something.

Pros: Weekly wine tasting

Cons: (kinda) Boring owners
