I am a naturally curious person. I always seek for a bigger picture for what I do. Universal Martial Art satisfy very much my need. Here is a non-exhausive list of materials I have learned from UMA : 1) Traditional Karate (includes technique, Kata, weapon, background and history); 2) Street self-defense (situational, unarmed and armed); 3) Competitive fighting (stand-up, wrestle, throw and ground) 4) Conditioning (cardio and muscular) 5) Discipline and principle of martial artist 6) Chinese kungfu (hard and soft style) 7) Human anatomy (body mechanics and vital points), I can still go on and go and on ...

I cannot say enough about UMAAC! FOr over 4 years, UMAAC has been a second home to myself and my three kids! We have made Martial Arts (Karate) a part of our lives and I have had the pleasure of meeting many wonderful people here! I am offered not only a richly diverse student population to train with and teach but also a uniquely universal philosophy of teaching. Blending 10 different arts into one, it forms a Self defense system that draws on the best of many worlds and is not only intriguing but very practical. UMAAC has a wonderful way of developing the best from our students and helps create a world class citizen that is well rounded, disciplined and confident. We offer opportunities that transcend many single discipline Martial Arts studios because Our Sensei is so well versed in many disciplines and is backed by over 20 years of experience. I cannot think of a better place to raise my kids nor affiliate myself with as UMAAC has enriched and benefited my life ten fold physically and mentally since I began. If you are looking for a positive influence in your family's lives, an opportunity to practice traditional MArtial Arts or just get into shape, then please check out UMAAC! I think you will like what you find and you will certainly find welcome in our house!
Pros: Positive Atmosphere and encouragement to improve your own performance, and overall concern for every student and their family
Cons: If you have never been there, it may be difficult to spot from W.W.T. HArris at first

This place has it all, but most important for me and my kids is that the family atmosphere, sure the sensei is great but you can find a lot of good instructors. There's something more to this place. Everyone treats you like family and supports you. I trained for many years, a long time ago, and I felt as comfortable here as in my own home. Lots of other places I visited we too busy trying to sell you on why they were better than every other place, that I felt like they didn't care about me. I am 47 years old and I feel like I'm 27 again.
Pros: Great Facility, super location near the northlake mall and university city, great instructors and well organized
Cons: takes a long time to reach black belt

I looked for weeks for a place to take my kids for karate or some other activity to keep them busy. I never expected to find someplace that would have such a positive impact. They are taught respect, and discipline as well as how to protect themselves. The staff here are so awesome, the teachers and desk people really know how to make you feel comfortable and keep you informed. The head instructor teaches all of the classes and there's almost always at least 1 instuctor for every 5 children. These guys are so great I signed up for the fitness program. I haven't lost much weight yet, but I've gotten stronger and more confident. Best of all my friends told me too watch out for contracts that they use to lure you in... No way.. not here... they don't do them.. but if they did I wouldn't have a problem signing one now... Don't waste time anywhere else. B
Pros: Friendly open and Family atmosphere great website universalmartialarts.us with lots of information
Cons: hard to find the first time, but plenty of parking when you get there
