It's a bar in georgetown

by lessteeth

If you're coming from Ballard, Magnolia, Madison Park, Wallingford etc. you might be surprised with Calamity Jane's. Suffice it to say, gentrification has not taken hold in Georgetown the way you hope it has, and a monthly slum for the art walk doesn't change that. CJs is a great bar with great food, decent service if you treat the staff like actual human people, and don't expect them to kiss your a$$ like the help in bars on hills.

  • Pros: Great happy hour, cheap prices, friendly employees
  • Cons: None for me

Good food, service with an attitude

by south_seattle

We finally decided to check with place out (2 adults, 2 kids) on an early Friday evening. The restaurant was empty (maybe two tables taken) and we were asked to seat ourselves. Reading all the other reviews we were a bit skeptical about the wait staff and how they would "react" to our kids.

While the waitress was not unfriendly, we were under the impression that kids weren't her preferred customers based on the way she interacted with us and not at all with them. Also, no crayons or paper, or anything to keep them busy were provided (we got our own back from the car). We had to wait a long time for the waitress to take our order.

The food arrived quickly and it was very good. We probably would eat there again but without the kids.

  • Pros: Good food, great location, nice alternative feel to the place
  • Cons: Long wait for order to be taken despite empty restaurant, no attention to kids

Comfy little food spot

by holyterror

We live on Beacon Hill, and thought we'd try the new stuff in Georgetown. What a treat and a surprise!

The rough edges of the neighborhood are completely smoothed out by the friendly folks at C.Js My

husband is from the south, and he's picky about his greens. These folks have them perfect.

The wait staff was funky and friendly, and the service was quick. The art on the walls was actual

stuff the locals have done, and the food was affordable and great. It's a casual and romantic little

neighbeorhood restaurant, well worth the trip.

best food in Georgetown

by lookigforruniseattle

I took my new girlfriend there and we had Ahi Tuna Kabobs. WOW what a taste treat. this surprisingly light tasty meal was served on salad and we finished our meal with a HUGE piece of the cooks grandmothers chocolate cake. To die for. I live in Renton and I usually end up eating in downtown seattle when i'm here but i've found a new place to tempt my palate. Well Done Calamity Jane's!

try it you'll like it

by emeraldcityeater

I went there on a Monday recently and tried the special. it was fresh green salad with steak.OMG it was delicious. the presentation was delightful. the staff was friendly, a rough looking character who was surprisingly fun and gregarious. We almost did not stop there after eating there some weeks earlier and having a messy plate of beans and greens. for future reference please wipe the sides of your dishes before serving them, nobody likes their food running down the side of a bowl. The atmosphere was great, a nice place for families and large groups. upon reading the menu i see a homey style of cuisine with some surprising specials presented here and there. absolutely the best food in Georgetown. try it you'll like it.

  • Pros: off menu specials

worst service I've had in years...

by fushiaharvey

We puttered in - mostly because we drive past on our way to Smarty Pants - and have said 1,000 times... We outta try the new place! And - gosh - that was a HORRIBLE idea. Beer was warm. There were only about 6 people in there and it still took 10 minutes to put in a drink order. Ordered a burger... saw it (done) and sitting under the heat lamp for about 15 minutes... while we sat with emply glasses... finally asked if that was our burger... to which we got a: "maybe." And another 10 minutes with warm beer and no burger - I just went up to the freakin kitchen station and picked it up myself. It was awful and cold and the salad was literally burnt from the heat lamp. Waitress was mad at me for getting it on my own - and I reminded her that it sat there (done) for moments shy of a half hour. She noted that it was busy. Again, I say there were 6 or so people. So - all said and done - a near $40 tab for a dead burger, warm beer, serving myself and the most awful service I've had in this town in years. I will NEVER EVER EVER go there again. Go the two blocks to Smarty Pants or the Saloon. They are NICE and professional and the food is awesome and speedy. Oh yes - and the beer is COLD.

  • Pros: it was open
  • Cons: awful service

Best food this side of airport way. bring a friend.

by enriquerivera

I have been to this place at least 5 times and "love it." The food is great. I never thought that I would be driving down to a joint just because of "collard greens and beans." But that is the kind of place Calamily Jane's is. Their cook, should I say magician?, does that with every meal.

I was first attracted to the place when I saw the busy lunch time crowd. The waiter was friendly and asked me if it was my first time. After telling her that it was, she went on to introduce herself and asked me for my name. Four times latter she has welcomed me using my first name. I love that kind of personal service. That day I had the portobello mushroom sandwich and, without a doubt, is the best I had yet. Their sandwich is not about masking the flavor and all the added ingredients are there only to complement the delicious flavor of the portobello. Yum!

The second time I made to the restaurant I went with a friend in the evening for dinner. We sat at the bar, the tables were full, and ordered the special of the night, lamb shank on rice. Wow, all I can say is that not many places can make a decent lamb shank, but at this place they sure know what they are doing. I will continue to frequent this place and highly recomend it. Also, check out their mixed drinks list.

basic food done up right

by Whattakid

The special was lamb, the drinks were cheap, and the service was good.

The atmosphere is relaxed, and the service was fast and friendly. Surprisingly like places that

charge a lot more.

What's not to like?

  • Pros: The best food in Georgetown, absolutely.
  • Cons: not enough parking.

OK Food, Bad Service

by maya77

I was so pumped to eat here based on a co-worker's recommendation and was sorely disappointed by the experience. We were seated quickly right before the lunch rush which consisted of about 5-6 new tables during the hour and a half we were there. Our server took our order quickly and brought our our food/beverages...and then never returned. Not to check on our lunch, refill our drinks, pull our empty plates. Nada. Zilch. Zero.

There were two servers on a Friday which may have contributed to the poor service, but the other server walked by our table at least five times when it was clear we needed plates pulled, refills, etc and didn't stop to check on us either. And then on the way out told us that she was "the boss." Great teamwork, guys.

Our server did have the decency to tell us not to leave a tip (we took his advice), but overall this was one of the worst dining experiences I've had in a long time. I don't care how the good the food is, if the service stinks, I'd rather go to McDonald's. At least I know what to expect.

bad service and stinky attitude

by crabbypants

A friend recommend this place so I met 2 friends there for dinner and a couple of drinks. The host gal was cranky pants, the minute we wanted into the place. Then the server was not friendly and not firmiliar with the menu or the wine list. We had to wait for our drinks every time and flag her down to get our drinks replenished. We waited for about 45 minutes just for our food. There was only about 3 other tables and it was easy stuff like sandwiches. It took over 2 1/2 hours to get one-two drinks and sandwiches. The food was just okay but man talk about horid service and a bad vibe. I'd never go here again, I was embarrassed that I suggested the place. Hope Calamity Jane reads this, since if they want to survive they need to figure out how to be nice.... it is called customer service folks!

  • Pros: good location
  • Cons: bad service, unfriendly staff, food just okay, limited menu
