Form the first step through the double doors, to the elegant columns of fire and the fine bronze bar top impressive enough for a high end business dinner yet casual enough for a collage date. Sonrisa had a wonderful inviting atmosphere to it. The food was wonderful showing a fine twist on many traditional Mexican dishes, a great selection and very pleasing portions. The staff was very friendly and informative of local attractions, shopping and upcoming events. We were also informed of a new “Taco Tuesday” in witch the following week we tried . Unsurprisingly it was just as, if not more pleasurable then our first time, with the most incredible little carne’ and chicken tacos for two dollars! And a refreshing margarita for three dollars. (cant beat it)
Pros: Atmosphere, food, staff, tuesdays
Cons: not enought tusedays in a week

From the fresh margaritas and the house beer to the spicy salsa and chips, our dinner was off to a great start. While the menu is definitely meat and fish centric, our waitress, Alyson, suggested fabulus vegetarian variations of much of the menu! Presented in a fun asian style, the food was FANTASTIC! We tried a vegetarian version of the Carne Asada Tacos with asperagus, cilantro, onions, pico de gallo and cotija cheese and the Mahi Mahi Tacos. The service was also great and the patio seating is a must on a nice night. Plenty of room in the nicely designed bar area as well. The best part is we walked in without a reservation on a Saturday night and sat right down on the patio. I can't imagine it will be like that for too long! You better hurry!

Stopped into the new mexican restaurant in the University Village the other afternoon for a drink and I was extremely impressed. They have one of the best margaritas in town (fresh sour mix and high end tequila) for only $4. I didn't have time to eat so I can't comment on the food but what I saw looked really good and they did have happy hour specials for food too. I will have to go back to test out the menu. The only knock I would say is that the happy hour ends at 5:30 so you got to get there early but I guess it does start up at 10:00 again so it would be a great place to go for a late night cocktail. I definitely recommend trying it out though.

My wife and I were shopping in the University Village near our home when we found Sonrisa. As we arrived we were asked if we we would like to sit in the dinning room or in the bar where they were offering a happy hour with dollar tacos. We decided to do the bar and try the tacos and I was in need of a marg. (which was very tasty). We ended up getting several orders of the tacos, some with beef and some with chicken. The portions were just right for the cost and delicious. We also tried the Spring Rolls which were different but excellent (especially the dipping sauce). We will be in again next Tuesday night and other nights in the future.
Pros: Excellent service, tasty food, good value!!!
Cons: That you haven't been to this restaurant!

Just a great place. I liked the way the restaurant looked, the food was solid and the margarita was the best I have had. The spring rolls were excellent, the sweet sauce that comes with them is awesome. The carne asada was flavorful and cooked to perfection. Do not leave without trying the tres leches cake. In University Village so parking was easy, I didn't have to wait for a table and they take reservations which is nice if you have kids. Service was really freindly and not stuffy.
Pros: Freindly service, great margaritas

Good new restaurant in U-Village. More upscale than we usually go to, but we thought we'd try something different. The food and drinks were both tasty. I enjoyed my margarita more than my husband enjoyed his mojito. Staff was friendly and courteous. I loved that they put a carafe of water on our table so we wouldn't a) run out of water and b) have to catch the eye of hovering wait staff to get water refills. The best part, however, was the presentation of the food. It was very attractively presented on interesting looking dishes - our taco plates were almost the whole width of our table in boat-like dishes. It was very Top Chef/Iron Chef-y. Pricing is a little on the high side, but it's a good place if you want something a little fancier for a night out. If you're not a chocaholic, I would recommend the Tres Leches for dessert - it's a pretty dense moist white cake with strawberries. Yum!

Now I've tasted my share of Margaritas and I have to say the "house" Marg at sonrisa beats them all. It has the right proportions of tart, sweet and tequilla. We arrived at 6 on Tuesday and the place was beginning to get busy. The interior was warm, comfortable and modern. The service by Andy was warm and attentive. We ordered Margs, Queso Fundido (sp?) and guacamole. The chips and appetizers came right away. The chips were thick and warm. The guacamole was well spiced although I did add some lime juice becasue that's how I like it. The Queso was different, unlike the "cheese dip" that one normally gets this was creamy and flavorful like mozzarella. My husband had the filet which he was very happy with and I had the Enchiladas. These were not your typical enchaladas. All I can say is that all the food that we tried and saw tasted and looked great. If our initial visit is any indication of our future ones, then we have found our new favorite restaurant in Seattle. -B
Pros: Great margaritas, modern tasty food and unique modern atmosphere
Cons: Not much. Only that the weather wasn't warm enough for us to sit out on the patio.

We were hoping for something like El Camino, but it seemed more like a Mexican PF Chang. The guacamole was extremely disappointing. Far from fresh, It had very little flavor and came out in a cold bowl on a cold plate, as if prepared hours (days?) earlier and refrigerated. For a small $8 portion, I expect it to be made tableside or at a minimum fresh: Chipotle's is much better. The entrees had potential but lacked spice and flavor (something I consider imperative for Mexican food--traditional or contemporary). The ancho scallops on corn pancakes with wilted spinach were interesting but seemed to be missing something. The pipian chicken had an interesting peanut butter sauce flavor which my husband liked. The atmosphere was upscale and the service friendly and attentive, most likely because the restaurant wasn't that full. Overall, it's a step up from Azteca, but no where near La Carta de Oaxaca or El Camino.
Pros: Ambience, menu variety, service, parking, no wait
Cons: Food (if you're used to higher-end Mexican)
