authentic food at a great price

by anmercedes at Citysearch

I thought I died and went to heaven when I tried their carne asada torta. It is so good, just like my uncle used to make, add a splash of their green salsa and you're good to go. I don't understand why this place isn't more crowded, they offer the best mexican food on the ave, hands down.

  • Pros: They have WiFi!!!!

Incredibly refreshing

by DentalCommander80 at Citysearch

Delicious. Plain and simple. Thank you Memo's, you've answered our prayers.

A couple of us were talking about starting a place like this on the Ave or in Pioneer Square. We're very happy to see that somebody else went through with it.

There used to be a taco shop on Eastlake, Burrito Express, which had the only decent burritos & enchiladas I have found through 4 years in Seattle (excluding fine dining restaurants like Rosita's in Greenlake). Burrito Express has been gone for about six months now... but now our prayers have been answered.

The food is incredible. The prices are unbelievable. The service is warm and friendly. And 24 hours?!? I think I'll be in the U district a lot more often... I think I'll head back right now!

Authentic Socal Taco Shop

by JBarajas at Citysearch

First things first : To "Go back to cali" or whatever your name is, I don't see why your review has not been deleted. It is worthless, biased, prejudiced and ugly. You should be ashamed, and I feel sorry for you. On a good note, Memo's is what people say it is - Authentic Socal Taco Shop food. To those who compare it negatively to fast food, you are somewhat right. It is fast food. It's pretty much the stuff you got at the Roberto's or Alberto's or Adalberto's drive-thru's if you ever lived in San Diego, and god how I've missed this stuff. I grew up in Chula Vista, and Lolita's on L st. is still the best Mexican food I've had, though they can't match my late Nana's carne asada, pozole, or frijoles. But when I needed a quick drive-thru fix, I'd slide through the Alberto's or Roberto's, and this is basically the exact same stuff. Lardy bean burritos filled with yellow cheese, Carne asada fries smothered in sour cream, thin but flavorful and exquisite hot sauce that you just want to drink out of a glass with ice while you eat your taquitos....Man, if you know Socal Mexican Food, you know exactly what I'm talking about. This stuff is in no way as good as the original, but if you're way the hell up here in the Pacific Northwest and the Taco Trucks just aren't quite hitting the spot in the right way, do yourself a favor and try this place. Trust me, San Diegans, you'll feel at least a little bit at home the second you look at the huge and recognizable menu.

  • Pros: Quick Service, Lardy

Never been to Memo's, but I've been to California and

by go_back_to_cali_morons at Citysearch

I'm tired of all you morons from California who think you guys have good Mexican food. I grew up in New Mexico and lived there for 20 years. I can tell you that MOST places there are good, whereas you people from the "Bay Area" think that "if you find the right place" it is good. Get over yourselves. It was true in Santa Fe and it's true in Seattle -- the only people who like you guys are yourselves. If California is so good ----- GO BACK! Bunch of pompous pr1cks.

For Seattle, it's very good

by gary1756 at Citysearch

As someone who lived in both the San Francisco bay area and Southern California for years, Memo's is one of the only places in Seattle that can hold a candle to burrito joints in those areas.

The guy who said San Francisco style burritos are "bland" is completely wrong, though. The best burritos I've ever had were in the mission district in SF and in South San Jose. Find the right places there ans it's as good as food gets...actually, when I was living in San Diego, I felt the burritos as good as the bay area!

Seattle burritos are NOTHING like a burrito you would get in the bay area (they have no flavor whereas burritos in the bay area are bursting with flavor)...this place is completely different in its own way, but at least it has some flavor. If I was in San Francisco, I wouldn't go to this place, but in Seattle its stands out as being far above the norm...

  • Pros: good for seattle, actually has some flavor!
  • Cons: nowhere near a good burrito place in the bay area

Rejoice

by seahawkman12 at Citysearch

Fans of muchas gracias rejoice, because memo's is the exact same thing. Its a little more expensive but maybe higher quality meat. I went to college in Salem, OR and Muchas is what I lived off of, since moving to Seattle i have had many sleepless nights because of withdraws. I had actually thought of opening a Muchas rip off in the U-district my self, but i got beat to it. This is the best burrito in seattle (sorry gorditos). Try the washington, or bacon if you cannot make up your mind. I ride the washington no salsa with sour cream. Open 24hrs its great drunk food, or anytime of the day. College students do your part keep this place thriving, go at all hours of the day and multiple times a day. Muchas gracias Memo's.

  • Pros: Best Burritos in seattle/ world.
  • Cons: Sometimes quality control issues

SoCal Style Mexican

by theryanmoore at Citysearch

If you are from San Diego or thereabouts, or have spent time there, this is the ONLY place in Seattle that will satisfy your craving. Believe me, I've been searching long and hard.

Most Mexican in Seattle is either:

A) San Francisco Mexican, meaning bland piles of sticky rice and pinto beans in a soggy tortilla (I mean really, SF is what, 12 hours from the border? Figures...) which some people are fine with (Especially if they are from SF. Nostalgia's a big factor here. This is a comfort food review.)

B) Amerimexican: Basically tortillas + melted cheddar + fried. Whatever.

C) Taco Carts, which are generally quite good and the closest thing to Mexican that you'll get here.

But to clarify, I don't want authentic Mexican, I want authentic SoCal Mexican. There probably is a difference (I've spent a good deal of time in Mexico and I never ran across a carne asada burrito.) In any case, if you want a proper (that's right) carne asada burrito, California burrito (which you can order with some tweaking), or 3 rolled tacos with guac and cheese, then this is your place.

It just opened and I went twice on opening day. It was like a taste of home. I can't review the place on any other terms, so don't argue with me about how Mexican it is or how greasy it is or how healthy/not it is.

If you've spent time in Albertos or Eriberto's or Filiberto's or Santana's or similar places, and can't find anything else like this in Seattle (probably because it simply DOES NOT exist), search no longer.

Oh ya, it's open 24 hours, like any proper place of this type.

Woohoo!
