I'm a transplant to Portland from the midwest and passed this hole-in-the-wall on a recent shopping trip so I ducked in for a burger one Saturday afternoon. The ambiance is exactly as described, real people in a smoky bar. I ordered a bacon cheeseburger with tator tots and when it arrived, I literally had to forage through the other items to find a very small griddle-seared beef patty which was very thin and very dry. I'm not certain if Steak 'n Shake (Carl's Jr., made to order) is considered good eats out here but that is exactly what you will get at Nob Hill Bar and Grill. Even for a dive, you would do better elsewhere.

Upon my recent visit to 23rd avenue we were lucky to stumble upon the Nobby on 23rd and Lovejoy. What a cool little bar in the middle of all the trendy shops and cafe's. Nobby's had that great feeling of a neighborhood bar where they might yell "Norm!" when you walk in the door. We were there when the place was packed and we were lucky to get a seat right away. I ordered a "Ambulance Chaser" and my wife ordered a double cheeseburger. These were the best burgers ever!! The coolest thing is you can order tater tots instead of fries - awesome!!!

Pros: Awesome Food

Cons: Crowded

I haven't got a bad meal here yet. Prices are reasonable. Burgers have always been great, but fries aren't very good. Sometimes it's taken a long time to get my order. Still gets 5 stars because it's the best burger in Portland I've had so far.

Pros: Great burgers, reasonably priced.

Cons: Parking (I hate going downtown), fries.

I had high expectations, and was let down. It is just a typical frozen beef patty ( at least it tastes like one ) with a lot of condiments on the plate. Nothing special, except their marketing campaign. Try going down the road to the Old Lompoc, where the beef is all natural and from Oregon, not the FREEZER! Also, this place apparently has smoking hours, so if you don't like to eat in a smokey environment, go during their lunch hours. I wouldn't recommend this place.

Pros: It is an old NW Portland neighborhood bar

Cons: underachieving hamburger

Decent place for a beer and smoke. But you can get a better cheeseburger at mcdonalds. No joke. Think Greasebomb. Old School place. Dirty. Dive. etc. etc. Not exactly healthy.

Pros: Gem of NW PDX.

Cons: Greasebomb. Smoky. Don't waste your money.

I wasn't super empressed by the burger, but it was good. Good tots too. We watched the game here and were sad that more fans weren't there as well. Pretty good beer prices too. The older gentleman that helped us was pretty friendly too.

Pros: Burger seems to win awards

Cons: Not the nicest crowd

I just returned to the midwest from a visit to my daughter in Portland. Part of the trip was having a hamburger with her and her SO, my mother and my sister at Nob Hill. The burger and the beer I washed it down with were great. We all enjoyed our meals. The previous reviewer was right - they just don't get it. The food is good bar fare. Perhaps he or she was looking for something a little more snooty. You won't find "snooty" at Nob Hill. And if you want a great dessert, walk next door to Alotto Gelato. If you love pig collectibles like I do, there are some HUGE concrete pigs right outside the door as a bonus. That made for a couple of good tourist type pictures.

Had the burger here with high hopes and I was disappointed to say the least. The burger is completely average, nothing specatular and not too far off of what you might get at Burgerville. A burger bummer as far as Im concerned.

Pros: No wait, no crowd

Title says it all. You can get scrumpticous burgers, chilli fries, tacos and other comfort food. One big plasma screen and a few small tv's for watching your favorite game, relxaed enviornment, super awesome service. No smoking during afternoon hours for family business and all.

Pros: Food, Service Staff, Relaxed Envi.

This place is totally fantastic! My wife and I head there on the occasional Sunday for some burgers and beer- and we have never once been dissapointed. The bartender is fast and funny, and the food always rocks. An A+++++++!!!!!!!

Pros: great service, great food
