As much as you love your Tae Bo and Pilates videos, there’s only so much of one activity that a person can take. It’s time to break out the breathable pants, throw on your terry cloth headband, and see exercise in a whole new light. Check out these workouts that not only give your muscles a change to prove they still exist, but refresh your mind as well.

Exercise in Seattle

  1. Sonny Newman's Dance Hall

    201 N 85TH St, Seattle, WA
Despite being forever associated with retro dance crazes, hula hooping is quickly becoming the new pilates. So much so, in fact, that many of the classes at this Greenwood dance hall sell out fast, so register early.

  2. Community Fitness

2113 NE 65th St, Seattle, WA
Jump rope and get in touch with your inner six-year-old--you know, the one that didn’t mind working out for a half an hour straight at lunchtime recess. Double Dutch is not only fun and a great workout, but a good excuse to wear pigtails as well.

  3. EverybodyHealth and Fitness

    2609 S. Jack2609 S. Jackson, Seattle, WA
If you’re brave and outging, check out this Central District gym for some daring classes. Showgirls, striptease and burlesque are all offered as unique ways to get in shape.

  4. Sweat Box Yoga

    1417 10TH Ave Ste B, Seattle, WA
A user-friendly but fairly intense form of yoga, Birkram consists of 26 postures and two breathing exercises in a heated room. They don’t call it the Sweatbox for nothing.

  5. Century Ballroom & Cafe

915 E Pine St, Seattle, WA
Let this Capitol Hill ballroom’s 2,000-square-foot dance floor pave the way for you to break a sweat while you swing dance the night away. Try salsa lessons if Latin is more your style, and don’t worry about being single—they’ll provide a partner.

Weights, cardio, personal training, child care, sauna and more than 25 group classes per week; long-term contract not required for membership.

  2. Washington Athletic Club

    1325 Sixth Ave, Seattle, WA
Get connected--in more ways than one--at this high-tech club rooted in old Seattle.
