Going for Broke on $5 Going for Broke on $5 RSS

Forget Parcheesi and Scrabble: Here are 6 ways to go for the gold with only the quarters in your pocket.
On This Page: Cheap Dates

Cheap Dates

  1. Ballard Grill & Alehouse

4300 Leary Way NW, Seattle, WA
75 cent games of pool, stand up video gaming in the corners and a large TV displaying sports make this local favorite an obvious choice. THE SCORE: Two games of pool and we're left with $3.50.

  2. King's Hardware

5225 Ballard Ave NW, Seattle, WA
Well-established with the cool crowd that crawls through Ballard, Kings offers 25 cent Skee-ball with plenty of stiff competition, especially during the Wednesday night tournaments. THE SCORE: Four overly competitive games later, we're left with $2.50.

  3. Jillian's Billiard Club

731 Westlake Ave N, Seattle, WA
Skip the $10-per-hour pool tables and the Jurassic Park theme game (what are you, 12?) and head straight for the retro foosball table. At 50 cents a game, and with its authentic wood players and ball, this is the only legit place to play foosball on the cheap. THE SCORE: Two games, a sore wrist and we've still got $1.50.

  4. Big Time Brewery & Alehouse

4133 University Way NE, Seattle, WA
Talk about cheap entertainment: Big Time offers free (that's right, free) shuffleboard. (Don't be afraid to wait your turn, the line never lasts long.) THE SCORE: Coupled with a locally-brewed pale ale and a slice of pizza or two (paid for by our friend), we are still left with $1.50.

  5. Dante's Steak & Grog

5300 Roosevelt Way NE, Seattle, WA
Take pool tables, race car games and foosball, add a dance floor and a bar and you've got Dante's. But we're not here for the dancing or the pool: Tonight, air hockey is our game. THE SCORE: One game, one dollar and we are left with fifty cents.

  6. Shorty's Coney Island

    2222 Second Ave, Seattle, WA
Like a circus in the city, Shorty’s provides your daily dose of the obscure. We're here for the pinball. All games are 50 cents, but (full disclosure) we had to run to the car for an additional quarter to play Spiderman Pinball. THE SCORE: All said and done, $5.25 and a whole lot of fun.
