Pizza Party

In an effort to determine pizza delivery superiority, we here at Citysearch decided that there was but one way to determine a victor: an old-fashioned race. So we ordered five pizzas at the same time, all to the same address on Queen Anne. Then we proceeded to round up a crew of our friends and conduct a blind taste test. Since Seattle is a vegetarian sort of town (and because two people in our party didn't eat meat), we decided to make it fair and order only veggie pies. Who showed up first? And which pizza was declared the victor?
Pagliacci
NAME OF PIZZA: Verde Primo. TOPPINGS: Artichoke hearts, mushrooms, pesto, goat cheese, garlic and mozzarella. DELIVERY TIME: 57 min (Predicted: 45 min). TOTAL SCORE: 41.5/50. TASTERS' NOTES: One tester called it an "eye-pleaser," noting that "green is pretty," while another approvingly wrote, "not your standard veggie pizza. Pesto and goat cheese are nice surprises." After all was said and done, this was the pie people came back to for seconds.

Mad Pizza
NAME OF PIZZA: Veggie Madness. TOPPINGS: Roma tomatoes, mushrooms, spinach, black olives, red onions, chopped garlic and fresh basil. DELIVERY TIME: 52 min (Predicted: 15-60 min). TOTAL SCORE: 38/50. TASTERS' NOTES: This pizza was pretty average. One tester observed that the toppings were "neither distracting, nor superb,” but everyone had problems with its "bready, doughy" crust.

NAME OF PIZZA: Tree Hugger. TOPPINGS: Fresh tomato sauce, mozzarella, sun-dried tomato, spinach, mushroom, artichoke hearts, broccoli, roma tomatoes, garlic and olives. DELIVERY TIME: 27 min (Predicted: 30 min). TOTAL SCORE: 35/50. TASTERS' NOTES: This veggie pizza was a favorite for a few...the broccoli topping was a make-or-break ingredient for our panel. One taster complained that “broccoli is weird, I don’t like it," but another voted this pie their favorite overall, writing "broccoli did it for me."

NAME OF PIZZA: Primavera. TOPPINGS: Mushrooms, tomatoes, onions, olives and green peppers. DELIVERY TIME: 47 min (Predicted: 40-45 min). TOTAL SCORE: 31.5/50. TASTERS' NOTES: "One of the most unattractive pizzas I’ve seen," wrote one taster. While the appearance may not have been top-notch, the “surprisingly good mix of toppings" seemed to keep people coming back. The only problem was the "flabby, soggy" thin crust.

NAME OF PIZZA: Veggie Lovers. TOPPINGS: Mushrooms, red onions, green peppers, tomatoes and black olives. DELIVERY TIME: 42 min (Predicted: 45 min). TASTERS' NOTES: “This pizza is ugly” commented one of our panel members, while another complained that the toppings were "pretty lame, seem canned." The integrity of the crust seemed to be the only high note, as it “held up very well to the weight of the cheese.” Of all the pizzas, everyone knew where this one came from before even trying it.
